5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing haunting unique style.
When I saw "The 10th Kingdom" on NBC, I not only enjoyed the story, I also enjoyed the music. I mainly got the soundtrack to hear the theme song and the harp music from the town scene (which is on track 15). I ended up really enjoying the whole soundtrack. It has a very unique electric style to it. It's kind of similar to the style of Mannheim...

3.0 out of 5 stars LOVE THE SOUNDATRACK, HATE the fact it came DAMAGED!
So I got this for a girl, who LOVES'S The 10th Kingdom, the music, the tv movie, the acting. I got the soundtrack for HER as it was on her wishlist.

She recieved it, the CD case had 3 cracks (so she can't read the music listings on the back) and the front has 2 cracks. One LARGE and medium sized one.

Why wasn't this packed in a small card type...

It's kind of similar to the style of Mannheim Steamroller. It was often very eerie and suspending, which made it interesting to listen to. It sounded a lot like a fairytale! It created an interesting atmosphereic mood. I really enjoyed "Wishing On A Star" even though it was only 1:21 minutes long. It was performed by Miriam Stockley, a South African singer who is the lead singer of Adiemus. She is a very great singer! The are a number of other really good tracks such as tracks 1,3,8,10,14 and many others. These tracks also created very interesting moods in the movie, like the humorous mood of "Six Glorious Wishes", the romantic mood of "Kissing Town", the shocking mood of "A Stepmother's curse", and the extreme tense moods of most of the tracks, especially "The Traveling Mirror". If you loved the movie, you will really love the soundtrack!

5.0 out of 5 stars A soundtrack that has unknowingly achieved greatness!, May 26, 2000
This review is from: The 10th Kingdom - TV Score (Audio CD)
Anne Dudley has a natural gift for protraying the emotion you see on the screne. Her music gives all of the unspoken messages that are so important to a films depth. She succeeds in making one of the most amazing films ever, become something more..something with true heart and greatness. The song "Wishing on a Star" is quiet moving to, bad it wasn't longer. "Standing of the Edge of Greatness" is a masterful piece of work that proves this composer is going to be around a long time. See the movie which will make you speechless with its utter greatness and then buy the soundtrack to relive that greatness..especially its love story.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Simple Yet Enchanting Orchestration, May 11, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The 10th Kingdom - TV Score (Audio CD)
"The 10th Kingdom" was an epic fantasy/modern fairy tale hybrid of a TV miniseries. At nearly seven hours in length, the soundtrack to such an ambitious project could have been any number of things, from epic and sweeping to campy and childish. The score to "The 10th Kingdom" is neither of these things; instead, it is a somewhat simplistic, pleasant orchestration that contains a little of both and manages to capture the story to great effect.

The theme song is featured as the closing track, and this was the song that many purchased this soundtrack for -- "Wishing on a Star" was a haunting, magical tune that Miriam Stockley's soaring vocals gave great power (it aided "The 10th Kingdom" in capturing an Emmy for Best Opening Sequence). Ms. Stockley was thankfully used in many instances as the vocalist on the rest of the score and she was never wasted.

There are simplistic tracks that are still emotive, such as "The 4 Who Saved the 9 Kingdoms" and "Addicted to Magic," as well as fun tracks such as "Troll Trouble" and the lovely harps featured in "Kissing Town." There are haunted, creepy themes such as "Nothing Escapes the Huntsman" or "Gypsy Incantation."

Anne Dudley's true strength as a composer, however, truly shines on the songs that dealt with Snow White, her wicked witch of a stepmother, or the current Evil Queen. Orchestrations such as "The Stepmother's Curse" and "The House of White" enthrall the senses with their sweeping themes; "Blood on the Snow" is suitably haunting, and the magic mirror themes ("Travelling Mirror") shimmer in emotive capability.

While the score to "The 10th Kingdom" might not have entirely reached the epic heights to which its rich source material ascended, it is a worthy addition to anyone's musical library and manages to enchant the listener with both the simple and the complex, the magical and the mundane, the sweeping and the pleasant.

my favorite song from this cd is wishing on a star, i think it is absolutely beautiful, and for all those that agree, there is a longer version by the Cover Girls, it's a bit different, but still very enjoyable

Everytime I listen to this CD, it just takes me away to fairy tale land. I love the opening song 'Wishing on a Star'. And Kissing Town theme. If you love the 10th Kingdom, then you will love this soundtrack.

This is the Cd to the worlds greatest movie, "The 10th Kingdom." The opening song "Wishing on a Star," is so harmonious it brought tears to my eyes. I can not wait until the next mini-series of "The 10th kingdom" comes out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Magical Score - Real Melodic, June 4, 2002

All I can say is I loved the movie. The score is what helped move the drama, comedy and mystery of this mini-series. If you are into scores - this is a good one to have in your collection.

Very melodic and magical in its tone. There are some fun cues too.

The only downside is that there is the opening theme stinger with words that is very, very short. I liked it a lot. I wish there was a longer veriosn of it.

Get this one - if you like musical scores!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD!, March 8, 2000

For all of you fans of the movie, this CD is great! It's not as good as the movie itself mind you, but the songs really place you back to the nine kingdoms and that frame of mine when you were viewing the movie. I loved the movie and I love the soundtrack, my favorite would have to be the Kissing Town song. If any of you happen to know who the artist was that sang the song in the trailer "If you believe, and make believe, in fairytales...", please let me know at einstein626@yahoo.com Thanks. Great CD. Buy it!
