Lo confieso: dude al principio, pero Cerati lo logro!!,

This review is from: 11 Episodios Sinfonicos (Audio CD)

Bravo, Gustavo!,

Too many pop/rock performers have made the journey into Symphonyland and they came back only with "phony". It is all too often very bloated and over-produced.Cerati exercises very good restraint throughout the album. He knows that he is not an opera singer. He does not try to be an opera singer. But his voice always blends well with the arrangements. Much thanks goes to arranger and conductor Alejandro Teran for his very fine work. It would be wonderful to listen to on its own even if Gustavo was not there. Who had the idea to add the theremin? Interesting!

Cerati walks a difficult path with this album as there are many examples of orchestra actually destroying a song or body of work by an artist once its transcribed into academic music grounds. Fortunately this is not the case with Once Episodios Sinfonicos. The music in this CD takes a different and innovative approach to the music by focusing the the emotional and perhaps dark side of the music making the orchestra an ambient and texture support for Cerati's voice. The arregements are done with style and ther overall fell ones gets is that this proyect had mature for a long time. This is not a proyect that came about in just a few dyas as the arregements have been carefully made and the song selections and sequence provides an extra punch. Of course, for many of us who have had the chance to see both Soda Stereo and Cerati in concert it comes as a shock to see traditional arregemets and instrumets changed. Bust, it is no surprised that Cerati has alsa made every effort possible in his career to constantly reinvent his music and to provide different angles for the listener to research hois music and lyrics. The result is a very dark a personnal view of some great classics. Cerati has announced that he plans to tour behind this record and it will be interesting to see this work performed live.

Maestro!,

This review is from: 11 Episodios Sinfonicos (Audio CD)
The first time I heard about this album I immediately tried to get the track list, I have to be honest, having heard `Verbo carne' in the album `Bocanada', my expectations for a symphonic album were the highest. Alejandro Teran presented this idea to Gustavo and the project crystallized; problem was that, he had never conducted an orchestra! It would also be recorded live for presentation on Universo tv.
With all this background I finally got the album and fell in love with the its design immediately, the cover and the booklet design are elegant and appropriate for this kind of project, the outfit he wore on the concert in which this was recorded appears on the cover as well. 11 tracks total are presented here, six from his days with Soda Stereo and the remaining ones from his solo discography. The albums open with `Cancion animal', accordingly to the instrumentation, Cerati sings calmly and with style, the musical arrangement will leave you breathless. `Corazon delator', `El rito', `Persiana americana' (incredible arrangement), `Un millon de años luz' and `Signos' are also present. The album is hard to digest at first, but the musical arrangements are quite impressive as stated before. The vocal level Gustavo achieves in many of the tracks is at the level of the music. An important thing to emphasize is how well the music from these songs fits in the classical style, besides having the superb arrangements they have, the songs somehow have that rhythm and that classical feeling. An obligatory piece of collection for any Soda Stereo and Gustavo Cerati fan, you will not be disappointed. Alejandro Teran surprises as a conductor, this mostly considering his lack of experience in the area. With this new project Gustavo reaffirms himself as the great musician he has proven to be with alternate versions of his greatest pieces that no fan can miss. An important note, you may want to hear first his previous works as member of Soda Stereo and as a solo artist to fully enjoy this album and live the experience of enjoying these new versions of classics from Latin American rock.

One of the Greates,

This CD comes to show the musical reason of the separation of Soda Estereo here you will be able to see the pure musical style and genius of Gustavo Cerati, You will be able to observe the long overdue extreme amputation of the commercial sound of Reggae which was the style of the other members of the group and had undermine the excellences of Soda Estereo for so long.
In this CD you will be able to appreciate one of the greatest composer and most privileged voices that Latin America has to offer, Even do is something very hard to admit for many Gustavo Cerati music and vocal style had been the blue print were most of the modern Latin Pop Rock groups like Mana, Atercipelados and Juanes had found (clone) their style. However none of these artist have got even close to match is musical or vocal genius. So in essence if you want to heard the best Latin American Popular Rock has to offer get your self a copy of this CD.

I have been Soda Stereo fan for a few years, but not so much of Cerati in his solo career. I bought this CD recently because of the new versions of the Soda Stereo songs (Canciòn Animal, Corazòn Delator, Persiana Americana...). After listening to this record, I was shocked! This is simply the best CD I've ever heard, EVER. The arrengements are amazing and his voice is unique. No wonder he is one of the best Latin-american pop/rock singers. This is a CD you should listen with the best stereo system you can get and as loud as you can. There are great songs that should be mentioned. For example, Canciòn Animal, Raìz, Persiana Americana, Bocanada are the best songs in the record. There is also a TV version of this concert, which is very good. Anyway, if you have ever heard anything of Cerati or Soda Stereo, BUY THIS CD!!! It's definetely a MUST have!

not so easy to like, at first,

If you use to like Gustavo's work on soda stereo it will be more difficult to like this product, otherwise, if you prefer his alone work, specially in albums like Bocanada or +Bien, you'll find it easier.... Some difference between this album and some other's artists that decided to play with and orchesta is that Cerati doesn't use any guitar or drums or bass, it's a real orchesta arrangement: it's only his voice and violins, cello..etc.. The songs are slower than the original recordings but they sound terrific!!!

This has turned to be one of my all-time favorites. The man knows the true meaning of the word art. I hate to admit it, but I first thought that "Once Episodios Sinfonicos" was going to ..., but after listening to it, not only I changed my mind, but I also was blown away. What I loved most about the album was the soundtrack-vibe it had. Each song reminded me of a great epic or drama movie. This album is a DEFINITE must-have, no matter what language you speak. Believe me, you'll understand what he is singing about even if your spoken language is not Spanish. |
