Book Description

June 2003
Documented through one man's life of firefighting, 9/11 A Firefighter’s Story begins with a four-year-old child’s dream of becoming a firefighter, and culminates in the chaotic, somber and hectic days after the attack on the World Trade Center. It provides a detailed account of the training and everyday experiences of a volunteer firefighter in the line of duty. It is also a detailed account of the attack on the World Trade Center. What was it like to witness the attacks of 9/11 and then respond to New York to assist with the search and rescue efforts? The book is told through the eyes of Justin Klabin, a volunteer firefighter, and it is a view that can only be given by someone in the position of a rescuer. 9/11 A Firefighter’s Story provides personal insight on a national crisis, and greater perspective on what it means to be a firefighter and to have witnessed the tragedy of terrorism on September 11, 2001.

2.0 out of 5 stars Another individual profiting from an unbelievable tragedy, September 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: 9/11: A Firefighter's Story (Paperback)
I believe that the horrific events of 9/11 must never be forgotten and that the images from that day should continue to haunt our minds so we will never forget, but I feel that this book is yet another way to profit from the tragedy. The book is not well written and was probably only printed because of the subject matter.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, September 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: 9/11: A Firefighter's Story (Paperback)
Even though I respect this author for his rescue efforts on 9/11, I feel that here is just another example of individuals profiting from the tragedy. The book was written mostly about this firefighter but I think that his is the most uninteresting story. I would prefer to hear accounts of those rescued and the lives that were lost that day. There are much better accounts out there than this one. Not recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Autobiography of a volunteer firefighter, September 15, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: 9/11: A Firefighter's Story (Paperback)
This book was a wonderful autobiography of a volunteer firefighter. While I was concerned that this book would graphically depict violence, I reluctantly agreed to read it (a colleague lent it to me). I was pleased to find the story of a young boy who wanted to be a firefighter and later became one. The 9/11 chapters talked more about the feelings surrounding it, air quality, and desperation that hung in the air. Reminiscent of Kerouac.
