5.0 out of 5 stars Autobiography of a volunteer firefighter
This book was a wonderful autobiography of a volunteer firefighter. While I was concerned that this book would graphically depict violence, I reluctantly agreed to read it (a colleague lent it to me). I was pleased to find the story of a young boy who wanted to be a firefighter and later became one. The 9/11 chapters talked more about the feelings surrounding it, air...

2.0 out of 5 stars Another individual profiting from an unbelievable tragedy
I believe that the horrific events of 9/11 must never be forgotten and that the images from that day should continue to haunt our minds so we will never forget, but I feel that this book is yet another way to profit from the tragedy. The book is not well written and was probably only printed because of the subject matter.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, September 8, 2003

This review is from: 9/11: A Firefighter's Story (Paperback)
Even though I respect this author for his rescue efforts on 9/11, I feel that here is just another example of individuals profiting from the tragedy. The book was written mostly about this firefighter but I think that his is the most uninteresting story. I would prefer to hear accounts of those rescued and the lives that were lost that day. There are much better accounts out there than this one. Not recommended.

The 9/11 chapters talked more about the feelings surrounding it, air quality, and desperation that hung in the air. Reminiscent of Kerouac.

5.0 out of 5 stars From boyhood dreams to firefighting rescue at 9/11, August 22, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: 9/11: A Firefighter's Story (Paperback)
Here is a brilliant account of one man's personal experience of September 11th. Written by Justin Klabin, a volunteer firefighter who dropped everything to assist with rescue attempts at Ground Zero after the infamous attack on the World Trade Center, the telling of his sojourn will capture you. The background history of the author (which includes his interest in becoming a firefighter as a child; the many false (fire) alarms he endured while living in his dormitory at Boston University; his brush with joining the military; and his creeping frustration with drivers who don't yield to a firetruck with flashing lights) will capture you. This book is quite an interesting life story, laced with humor, wit and hindsight. The fact that it happens to revolve around the tragedy of September 11th makes it that much more poignant.
