TzN's back and better than ever!!,
This review is from: 111 Ciento Once (Audio CD)
Tiziano Ferro's debut "Rojo Relativo" was a fantastic blend of rock, gospel, and R&B sensibilities tied together with gentle ballads. On his second album "Ciento Once" (111), TzN sticks with a winning formula. On the Spanish version, eight of the thirteen songs are Spanish, with five being left in the original Italian (on Rojo Relativo nearly all the songs were translated). Tiziano translates beautifully to Spanish, and his diction is flawless. This time around the beats are edgier, the lyrics are sharper, and the presentation more polished overall. Tiziano's confidence and love of singing shine through, as well as his witty, heartfelt lyrics. His voice is an acquired taste: by turns raspy, immediate, and tender, it can be jarring on first hearing it. On "Ciento Once" we hear touches of his higher register, even brief falsetto croons, which sends me into a swoon every time. There are several parallels between "Rojo Relativo" and 111: mainly, two driving singles with similar sounds: Xverso's oh-so-naughty heavy breathing and sneered delivery evoke Xdona, the gentle declarations of Tardes negras bring to mind the haunting Alucinado (both Xdona and Aluciando are included as bonus tracks on this version). On "Ciento Once," Tiziano tries a novel new sound: jazz. On Temple Bar his smoky, husky voice works perfectly to his advantage on this gorgeous torch song. Master jazz pianist Dado Moroni coaxes out a melancholy backing, along with soprano sax and snare brushes. Other standouts include the quirky En el baño del aeropuerto, the hip-hop rhythmic Mi abuela and 10 Piegamenti, the tender ballads Tardes negras, No me lo puedo explicar, Quien no tiene talento enseña, and 13 años. There's not a stinker here, folks. No generic filler. No bubblegum lyrics. Only genuine TzN.

This is Tiziano Ferro's second album. It contains 13 new songs + "Perdono" and "Alucinado" in the Latin American release! "Ciento Once" is a strong pop/dance introduction, followed by the first single "Perverso". The following songs are mostly spanish R&B and ballads (for those who expected rhythmic songs like me!), but "Tardes Negras" is beautiful! Another nice song is "13 Años", which can remind us to "Il Bimbo Dentro" from his first album, and "10 Piegamenti!" can remind us to "Primavera Nunca Fué" ("Primavera Non E Piu"). Also, 5 songs are in italian, and "Temple Bar" is even a cool 100%-pure-jazz song! Another cool pop-songs are "En El Baño Al Aeropuerto" and "Mi Abuela".Generally, it's a cool album: it may be a little difficult to digest at the beginning... but that's the magic of his music! And it's definitively a MUST for every TzN-fan! Grazie mille ed arrivederci a tutti! =¬D

tiziano's has definitely improved with "ciento once". i find almost all the songs on this album catchy, sensual, provocative, and a joy to listen to. tiziano has developed further his style and sophistication with this second album. good examples are "perverso", "tardes negras", the ultra-sexy "eri come l'oro ora sei come loro", and the provocative "ti voglio bene". tiziano's songs are r&b inspired, but his style is deliciously sophisticated. tiziano demonstrates how much of a cool cat he is as noted on "temple bar". i hope tiziano is considering releasing a strictly jazz album, as "temple bar" proves that he easily delivers emotional performances with his throaty, baritone voice. i enjoy this album more every time i listen to it. i would highly recommend "ciento once" as an introduction to tiziano ferro's music over "rojo relativo", although i must say that all versions of "alucinado", including "imbranato", make acquiring the first album so worth it.
