It is getting really hard to find a decent 16 oz claw hammer with a hickory handle. The head of the hammer is nicely forged and polished and the hammer is well balanced. The handle is oval shaped and properly aligned with the head. However, when it was still made in America, the handle of this hammer had a slightly thicker swell at the bottom that allowed for a lighter grasp while swinging it. It may not seem like a big deal until you spend a couple hours pounding nails. If they would go back to original handle shape this hammer would be perfect.

This is not a remake of the original Plumb Autograf claw hammer made by Cooper Tool in the 50s, 60s and 70s. It does not have the hickory wood handle with angled edges that fit into the creases of your hand. And it is not balanced like the original. It is a knock-off, probably made by a company in China that purchased the right to use the Plumb Autograf name. Too bad. The original was a hammer you could use all day nailing and not get hand fatigue.

It's just as nice as the one I bought in the mid seventies and use daily except the new one has an oval shaped handle or pole as
they call it and not the octagon handle as they describe and I was expecting ,which is disappointing.

This hammer is not the American made Plumb Autograph that my old 13 ounce hammer is. This one was made in China and does not have the balance or feel of my older one. That said it is a better than average wooden handled hammer. The head is epoxied onto the handle and if it acts like my 13 oz it will not shake loose. The head seems like it is a ground and polished casting rather than a forging. I have used it, it works fine, it is not a Rolex.

Plumb hammer makes the best hammers ever. I work as a carpenter and the head is by far the best and has the best feel to it. I wish the handle was slightly longer but thats easy to change out

I felt like an idiot buying a hammer online, but Lowes and local hardware stores didn't have hickory hammers (WTF?). This hammer saved my day on multiple occassions.

I have used this 16oz model for years and love it. I recently ordered another because my old one was lost.

I built a large wooden deck a few years ago using this hammer and you can certainly tell a well-balanced, -made hammer after 10 hours of driving nails all day.

Just make sure you hit the nail on the head and not your thumb. Otherwise, this product performs very well.
