5.0 out of 5 stars DBS: the college years, November 14, 2000
By
AuralWreath (Williamsburg, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 11th Song (Audio CD)
Before Breakfast at Tiffany's was released to a world starved for music that didn't sound like Nirvana, Deep Blue Something was a college band in Texas. This is their college album. As such, it is not poppy, it is not happy. Often wistful and reflective about the strangeness of the college experience, the lyrics range from cerebral to nonsense and back. Musically, the album is under-produced, but don't let that stop you. If you can get past the guitars that actually sound like a guitar might sound if you were to pick one up, the chords are silly, and the solos are melodramatic, but in the best ways. This is DBS playing in a band because they were having fun. Overall, a much more complex album than Home, and far more cohesive than Byzantium. Worth picking up!

Alternative Rockers who got labelled as Bubble Grunge with a different version which is on their supposed '2nd album' Home (the original cut is on here) of Breakfast At Tiffany's supposed 'debut' album is better then you might think. Music wise it's Alt Rock with Accoustic/Electric Guitar overdubs and great Bass playing which Mike Watt (Minutemen/fIREHOSE) would of been proud off. Don't get put off that these guys are dubbed one hit wonders. As for the 11th song, it's the last track which is not listed but I gather it's called 11th Song. If you like Alternative Rock or Post Grunge or even Grunge music then I recommend you get this.

5.0 out of 5 stars 11th song is their best song played live., June 1, 1999

I love this CD. One of my all time favorites. Always seems to find my CD player on road trips to D-town. Only wish the band would re-record the untitled 11th song as they perform it live.
