5.0 out of 5 stars Good to read with a couple San Miguel, December 12, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: 12,000 Miles  (Paperback)
The author describes the situation of trying to find love and the hardship of a long distant relationship superbly and without hesitation. This is a real life story, very well written, no dull moment and you anticipate more and more. You never know what to expect next and you're just blown away. There's thrill and excitement and you actually feel the pain and joy of the characters in the story. You've got to get hold of the book and you never regret. It's worth keeping. Maipagmamalaki ang Pinoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Joy to Read, April 5, 2004
This review is from: 12,000 Miles  (Paperback)
The beautiful and sometimes hilarious images Jeff paints with his words makes this book a true joy to read. His ability to capture genuine emotion is his gift to the reader. Jeff's down to earth approach to writing and choice of simple yet powerfull words only strengthens this timeless love story. Take equal parts John Steinbeck and Charles Bukowski and mix in a little Herman Hess and you get Jeff S. Thompson.

5.0 out of 5 stars 12000 steps to success with Foreign Courtship, December 3, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: 12,000 Miles  (Paperback)
Though Jeff wrote 12,000 Miles as a novel it is fact based sharing the details from mile one of how he met the Filipina that would later become his wife all the way to managing the complicated visa process to bring her home to the US.

I especially found the insights he shares as he writes about his visits to the Philippines to be priceless. This book will greatly help you understand the Philippine culture as it affects courtship and family relationship building. It will definitely save you considerable time and money with Foreign Courtship. Congratulations Jeff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant for a first novel., June 15, 2010
This review is from: 12,000 Miles  (Paperback)
Although this is Jeffrey S. Thompson's first novel and probably not given the proper attention from the Publisher (editing is rough), it is very emotional and edgy. This book contains content and originality. Unlike a lot of books today it does not simply follow a format that is easy for the palate. It captures the ebb and flow of life for the modern young American. It is a story of struggle and hope. 12,000 Miles is a story anyone who has loved and lost and looked again can relate to. 12,000 Miles

4.0 out of 5 stars Engaging and charming story, January 16, 2007
This review is from: 12,000 Miles  (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this story and found it to be charming. Being a speed reader, I read it from cover to cover on a round trip flight. The characters in this story are well thought out and the reader can relate easily. It is an easy read and the pace is perfect to keep the reader engaged and caring about the story. There are many plot avenues that were not explored in depth, but it gives you the feeling that there are more novels to come. It whets your appetite for more to come.

12,000 Miles piqued my interest due to a friend's recommendation, and I almost didn't buy it. Wow, what a mistake that would have been! I was hooked after the first few pages and when finished it had resurrected an enjoyment for reading that I thought had died long ago. I can't wait for the next one!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thumbs Up for 12,000 Miles, November 22, 2006
This review is from: 12,000 Miles  (Paperback)
12,000 miles is one of those rare first novels -it has depth and complexity, it has real characters, and the story moves. And when it moves, it passes through some murky territory -both geographically and across the landscape of the soul. A romance tale told way outside the box.

I'm not much of a reader. Fact is the last work I finished from cover to cover was a 49 page coloring book! That is until, I happened upon 12,000 Miles. There was something narcotic about this novel that I just couldn't put it down until the end and even then, I wanted more!
The author had a magical way of making me feel like I was right there in the story using unbelievable descriptions & expressions that painted the scenes in my mind's eye. I actually found myself laughing, crying & cursing out loud while under the author's hypnotic powers. I would recommend this book to anyone but especially those who aren't avid readers and who might be intimidated, thinking of reading as a chore. I would like to thank the author for breaking the shackles of reader-laziness & apathy that once confined me. Will there be a sequel?

5.0 out of 5 stars A very uplifting read!!!, November 21, 2006
This review is from: 12,000 Miles  (Paperback)
12,000 Miles was a fantastic tale with elements of romance, comedy, tragedy, failure, and redemption in it. Above all else though, it is a story of the triumph of the human spirit over adversity, cynicism, and "the machine" that threatens to grind everyone's spirit up on a daily basis. I read the book in one sitting and would recommend it to anyone else who loves to see a good adventure yarn unfold. Can't wait to read Thompson's next one!
