12" 3-in-1 Combination Game Set - Chess, Checkers & Chinese Checkers

This is a beautiful and compact 3-in-1 Set containing: Chess, Checkers and Chinese Checkers. The board and pieces are wood. However, only the Chess pieces are magnetic. Well crafted. At less than $40, this is a great value.

I was very pleased by the quality of this set, especially for the very reasonable price. The wood is very sturdy, the finish is extremely nice, and the construction very well done. My only complaint is that the storage drawers are a little small to hold all the pieces for all 3 games. It would do any 2 of the games extremely well, but with the pieces for the 3rd game it's a challenge to get them to slide in and out smoothly and without fear of jamming or breaking something. We'll improvise and put some of the pieces in a separate container. All-in-all, extremely pleased with this purchase.

I was very impressed with this set. I really like the magnetic chess men and board. It helps with my 7 year old in playing. Good quality and nice looking. Worth the money.

I was looking to buy a checkers game as a gift, and decided to spend the extra money to get a nicer-looking, self-contained set-up that the pre-teen could long enjoy. I received the item in a timely manner, but was very disappointed with it. The base is attractive and seemed well-made. What upset me, were the playing pieces! The magnetized chess figures are really the only pieces that were useable.

First off - the description was worded to sound like it was a 12" board. Really...12" is the diameter of the round base. The checkerboard is considerably smaller, and would make for rather awkward play. When I got out the "checkers", I was amazed to see that they literally are the size of a penny, and are made of smooth wood. When stacked, one disk easily slid off another. What fun would it be to play checkers...when players could never zip their "Kings" around, without them falling apart and messing up the game?!

When I decided to check-out the chinese checker game on the flip side, I had to literally force open the one drawer in which the pieces were stored. I wasn't sure I could get it open! When I tried to place the pegs into the holes on the playing board, I found that well over 1/3 of the pegs were cut TOO LARGE to fit into the holes! No way, can anyone play that game!

I guess that was the "last straw" for my decision to return the item - even though I've never returned anything I'd ever ordered over the Internet. I will say...I was pleased to find that after some back-tracking, I was able to get to a point where Amazon gave me direction for how to print up the sheets that went inside and on top of the box. I dropped off the prepared box at a nearby UPS drop-off site, and was pleased that I didn't get stuck paying the return postage. I later was notified that I would receive a refund to my credit card.

After looking, for awhile, at the checker games at the ToysRUs store - I settled on one called "King Me". It has a nice-size, sturdy playing board (that folded up into the box), and full-size, plastic, ridged, playing pieces that can be easily stacked. The cool thing about these checkers is that with one twist of the wrist...little prongs pop up all around the perimeter, to create a crown effect on the top checker. The gal loved this set!

Just received this item, purchased as a Christmas gift for my nephew. Another reviewer mentioned that the drawers were somewhat small for all the pieces. That appears correct, and I was surprised at the overall size of the item. I didn't think to measure, but 12" is not what I would consider a normal size board. The size will probably work out to be nice for storage, but it wasn't what I expected.

Quality of this product was not what I expected based on many purchases with/via amazon.com. NOTE: the game pieces do not fit in the drawers without a lot of patient arranging for the chess/checker pieces and the two drawers open on the same gameboard. For the price I innocently assumed there would be at least a fabric bag to slide the gameboard into to protect the wood if one needs to store or transport the unit.

We bought this game for our cottage for the whole family to enjoy. The wood finish is quite nice and it's a good compact size. The only negative is when the kids open the drawers, if it is upside down, they inadvertently spill everything out. Otherwise, no complaints with this product.

Nice finish. The only thing I complain is that the pieces don't fit on the little drawers. Mine came with a scratch.I gave four stars on durability because I don't know how long it will last (I've only have it for 2 weeks), but one of my daughters dropped it over concrete and I can predict it is heavy duty. Overall, I would say it's a very good product for the price. My daughters love it.

We purchased this set because we wanted to play chinese checkers. We already had a small set of checkers, but nothing beautiful. We really disliked playing chinese checkers with the metal sets with marbles, and this three-in-one wooden set looked beautiful.

We weren't disappointed when we opened the set. It is a similar size to all the other chinese checker sets, so I'm not sure why anyone would be disappointed in its size. The wood finish is beautiful and feels wonderful to the touch. The chess pieces are magnetic which my 6 year old really enjoys. It would have been wonderful if the checkers were magnetic, as well, but really, I can't complain!

It is difficult to fit all the pieces in the drawers, but it can be done. Since our household has small children, I keep the chess pieces separately. It's just too frustrating for my youngest to try to fit everything in.

There are pegs for the chinese checkers game which makes the game much more enjoyable to play with small children. There's no need to worry about a marble getting knocked off the board and losing one's spot, or rolling under a couch.

It's a lovely set that we've spent hours enjoying.
