Better than the plastic,

Maybe I should be more charitable than 3 stars for el cheapo bolts, for el cheapo crossbow pistols. These little crossbow pistols are a lot of fun for the money, but the two styles of bolts available for them aren't very durable.
THE CONS: The fins (the black part in the photos) on these "aluminum" bolts are a very cheap, brittle plastic that break off easily. THE PROS: The aluminum shaft version is about half again the weight of the plastic shaft version, with the weight balanced toward the front of the dart. They fly straight and group well at up to about 50 feet. By comparison, the all plastic with metal points (which also break easily) are all over the place and don't group at all. Don't waste your money on the plastic ones. The aluminum shaft version, at least, is fun to shoot - just figure on buying lots of them to allow for a lot of broken fins.

Only one shot, but also bang for your buck,

I have the 80 lb pistol crossbow with the self cocking handle. These things shoot awesome and fast! I'm shooting at a wood box made of something like white or yellow pine. These things stick into the wood about an inch -- hard to get out. I'd say 90% of the time the back plastic part pops off and breaks. A few times I was able to use a arrow a second time, but even then I was wary because the impact of the arrow with the wood had made the aluminum arrow slightly curved, this happened every time. I guess I should shoot into something softer like a Styrofoam target or something. One time i missed and this thing went right through a metal cabinet which was probably like the thickness of a gym locker. Had to open the cabinet and look for it inside. Another time I hit a cement cinder block and the arrow took a nice big deep chunk out of it.

They travel some distance, can be reused a few times, but break if they hit something hard.

Garbage,

The arrows I got with the Cobra crossbow pistol (3) were great. The Tawian half aluminum half molded hard plastic are just awful. The plastic and aluminum parts of the shaft don't line up on more than half the arrows, causing them to fly eratically. In addition the plastic on two of the arrows broke on the first shot into high density foam made specifically for archery. It is not hard and there is no reason for the arrow to fail.
A tip - don't throw away the broken shafts. Take the aluminum part and make fletching from masking tape. They don't fly quite as well as the Cobra arrows but they do OK if you do the fletching carefully and it's far better than wasting money on more of these crap arrows.

Great bolts! They fly super-straight, they're sharp as heck, and pretty inexpensive (pretty to look at too). You sure won't get more than one shot from them, as the aluminum is very soft and pliable. Make sure you buy 4 or 5 packs at a time!

These "Aluminum High Impact Arrows" are actually somewhat of a bargain at less than .53 apiece (at least when I ordered them) so really didn't have much in the way expectations about the quality of these, but I was pleasantly surprised. Here are my observations:
Pros - + Price; these are very inexpensive + Compatibility; these work fine in my 50lb draw hand crossbow + Shafts; these are made out of fairly strong aluminum that have held up well to abuse (like hitting stone walls) Cons - - Weak Glue; tips and fletching come off after a bit, I have used Gorilla Glue 7805001 Super Glue Bottle, 15 Gram to reattach them with good success These work well and are inexpensive enough to replace when they break or get lost. Recommended! CFH

Too fragile,
This review is from: 12 Aluminum High Impact Arrows (Misc.)
I have used both these aluminum bolts and the plastic bolts with my 80 lb. Cobra crossbow pistol and can tell you that the black plastic rear section of the aluminum bolts WILL break after only a few shots. I now use only the plastic bolts (they have metal target tips) sold by Amazon and other sites. The plastic bolts are far more durable. Sometimes the metal tip of the plastic bolts will pull off. These can be glued back on very easily. On the other hand, the aluminum bolts are not repairable. Also, contrary to another review here, the aluminum bolts are about 2-3 grams heavier than the plastic bolts. The plastic bolts are quite accurate and retain their shape even after hard hits. Hope this helps.

Heavy duty lil guys,

I bought a set of them for the 50 pound crossbow pistol. The flights are great and are also dependable. If your crossbows site is correct you will make good points with these tuff lil guys. I tried them on cardboard boxes at 25 feet and it went right through both sides. Tried them on a cottonwood log and it went in 1/2 inch at 25 feet. They blend in well with straw, hay and yellow grasses so if you want to find um paint the flights with florescent orange, or red. Good with a 50 pound crossbow to kill a possum at close range. Third shot got the neck and bled out. Surprised no chasing or crawling under the house.

Couldn't find these around my area...
they worked great! used for target practice with a small Crossman 80 lb. cross-bow pistol. the tips are srew-off, removable. That is a great feature, and the cost was very low. I bought 3 packs! Definitely a good item. |
