Product Description

It is called quinoa (pronounced keen-wa), and is a grain that comes from the Andes Mountains of South America. Quinoa's origins are truly ancient. It was one of the three staple foods, along with corn and potatoes, of the Inca civilization. Quinoa was known then, and still is known, with respect, as the mother grain. We call it the Supergrain of the Future. Quinoa contains more protein than any other grain; an average of 16.2 percent, compared with 7.5 percent for rice, 9.9 percent for millet, and 14 percent for wheat. Some varieties of quinoa are more than 20 percent protein. Quinoa's protein is of an unusually high quality. It is a complete protein, with an essential amino acid balance close to the ideal ... similar to milk! Quinoa's protein is high in lysine, methionine and cystine. This makes it an excellent food to combine with, and boost the protein value of, other grains (which are low in lysine), or soy (which is low in methionine and cystine).

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for making gluten free food. September 12, 2011

Since this was first time using the flakes I was so surprised of the taste when I ate gluten free breakfast bars. The texture was really good and my son ate them I was afraid that he wouldn't like them I wasn't even sure I did the recipe right but he loved them. I will buy these flakes again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy way to add protein to carb meals October 6, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
I love adding this to oatmeal (measure out water/grains to equal 2 servings of each product and cook following oatmeal directions), muffins (add in some to replace a portion of flour) and even meatloaf as the thickener/stretcher instead of oatmeal. Love the price here vs. in stores.

Best hot breakfast ever! So much better than oatmeal! Microwave works really well and is less messy than stovetop. Love!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not your finest hour, amazon June 19, 2013

The product is just fine but the shipping packaging is horrible. You simple do not put a box of cereal in a big envelope and mail it. The cereal box was crushed and the bag inside was ruptured. tsk tsk. Why on earth was an envelope selected rather than the nifty shopping boxes that are usually the packaging style? Please don't let this happen again. I buy from you folks all the time and this is the first time it has happened.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still thick for baby June 13, 2013

Trying to add more protein to my 10 month old's diet. He didn't take well to regular quinoa, so I tried this. It's still pretty thick once it's cooked, but it is at least easier to cook. I'd buy again.
