Worth it just for ...,

... the long version of Uptown Festival. This is one of the RARE places that you can find this mix. Of course, the rest of this CD kicks very nicely (Take that to the bank, The Second time around especially) and the long versions are a nice change over the 45 versions. As a matter of opinion, unless you are a Shalamar collector this is the better collection to own over the domestic greatest hits album. Also, if you can find a copy check out the Uptown Festival album from 1977 for a nice disco version of the Supremes "Forever Came Today".

The Best of the Best,
By Jara (Fremont, CA USA) - See all my reviews

I grew up on Shalamar's music, from "Second Time Around" to "Dancing in the Sheets." This cd has those cuts and more. Every single Shalamar hit worth mentioning is included in this collection. Although the songs are from the 70s and 80s, they don't sound dated and irrelevant. Of course, the songs recorded by the Howard Hewett/Jody Watley/Jeffrey Daniels lineup are the best, but "Take that to the Bank" and "Uptown Festival" won't disappoint you. A true Shalamar fan's collection wouldn't be complete without it.

"Take That to The Bank," "Second Time Around," "Right in The Socket," "Make That Move," "Night to Remember," "Dancing in The Sheets," "This Is for The Lover in You," are ABSOLUTE ESSENTIALS, and not just for the Shalamar fan, but for any fan of great, smooth, r&b and dance from the period. The songs are catchy, the production flawless [featuring full orchestration mostly and great playing throughout], and the vocals of Howard Hewitt and Jody Watley are very distinctive. Wow! 7 of 13 are essentials. I wouldn't settle for anything less than the full-length versions, and enjoy the extended versions, as well.
