Worth it just for ...,

... the long version of Uptown Festival. This is one of the RARE places that you can find this mix. Of course, the rest of this CD kicks very nicely (Take that to the bank, The Second time around especially) and the long versions are a nice change over the 45 versions. As a matter of opinion, unless you are a Shalamar collector this is the better collection to own over the domestic greatest hits album. Also, if you can find a copy check out the Uptown Festival album from 1977 for a nice disco version of the Supremes "Forever Came Today".

The Best of the Best,

I grew up on Shalamar's music, from "Second Time Around" to "Dancing in the Sheets." This cd has those cuts and more. Every single Shalamar hit worth mentioning is included in this collection. Although the songs are from the 70s and 80s, they don't sound dated and irrelevant. Of course, the songs recorded by the Howard Hewett/Jody Watley/Jeffrey Daniels lineup are the best, but "Take that to the Bank" and "Uptown Festival" won't disappoint you. A true Shalamar fan's collection wouldn't be complete without it.

"Take That to The Bank," "Second Time Around," "Right in The Socket," "Make That Move," "Night to Remember," "Dancing in The Sheets," "This Is for The Lover in You," are ABSOLUTE ESSENTIALS, and not just for the Shalamar fan, but for any fan of great, smooth, r&b and dance from the period. The songs are catchy, the production flawless [featuring full orchestration mostly and great playing throughout], and the vocals of Howard Hewitt and Jody Watley are very distinctive. Wow! 7 of 13 are essentials. I wouldn't settle for anything less than the full-length versions, and enjoy the extended versions, as well.

Great Collection,
This review is from: 12" Collection (Audio CD)
This is a great collection of music. I give it the four stars for putting in the original line-up with the classic Shalamar hits the "Night to Remember","Second Time Around". " Dead Giveaway", and of course the beautiful sultry love song "This is For the Lover in You. However, I had to take a star away because of "Circumstantial Evidence", no offense to anyone who likes the song, but it didn't have the Fab Three ( Jody, Jeffry, and Howard) so to me it was a waste of space. The song was pointless then and means even less now. They could have done without it on the CD. A much better song would have been "Somewhere There's a Love". That was a very strong Shalamar ballad.LIstening suggestion: Skip over " Circumstantial Evidence(If you love your ears you will), then the rest of the CD is wonderful.

Something finally worth the money is here! I myself have this collection (different cover, mostly the same songs) and enjoy it thoroughly! This is definitely "value added!" I recommend this to any Shalamar fans and even to those of you that aren't. A little bit of Pop/R&B history (and memories) will be found here!

Very Essential,
This review is from: 12" Collection (Audio CD)
Shalamar is one of those acts that you will bump to until you are tired.this is very essential to anyone who digs Shlamar.all the Jams are here.Howard Hewitt, is one of the baddest Vocalists ever.Jody is Baddd!! as well.Jeffrey Daniels, is bad as well.the Original Shalamar was on the one.the later one had moments but it wasn't nearly the same.still this is a must that hasn't dated at all.

Shalamar,

The music of today is simply garbage & I long for the music of yesterday. Artists who can sing & tell a story is what I miss. I have the albums & cassette tapes & I wanted to have the CD in my collection.I hadn't heard many of Shalamar's songs in years and they are one of the reasons I turn on my stereo again after many years.

I could never find the long version of my favorite track by Shalamar "Over And Over" in the states, until I came over here to England, (out of all places) to finally had found it, on this CD.
I got this CD at a local CD/DVD store here in London, the clerk told me I was lucky, because this Shalamar CD sells out pretty fast!!! Also, a few British bands (and very good) has cover some of Shalamar's old songs. The group is still pretty popular over here in Europe.

WoW. This was the time of pure pop. What fun. "Take that to the bank". Heard that track on XM radio and had to hunt it down.
