There are 10 reviews of this book here, they do not all seem genuine, just keep that in mind. they are all written in the same style, with many of the same comments.

I was very disapointed with this book. I'm recently teaching many Ghanains and hoped this book would give me a liottle bit of insight on their culture, but it was just a boring travel journal. I would not recommed this book, unless you're a good friend or family member of Mr. Gaines.

My co-worker's brother wrote this book so I decided to support him and read it. Since I'm preparing for a trip to Ghana also I thought this book was interesting and Mr. Gaines' adventures were hilarious.

Review of 12 days in ghana,
This review is from: 12 Days in Ghana: Reunions, Revelations & Reflections (Paperback)
I noted that this book did not start with the author immediately writing about Ghana, but rather he took me through a journey of the stay with his friend, the ride to the airport, and funny moments that occurred. What I appreciated about this book, is that having never been to ghana, and not having much time for long unabridged novels, I was able to feel as though I was taking the journey, and I was able to do so relatively quickly. I found myself laughing at various moments, somewhat sad at other moments, and somewhat curious about the author's annoyance with the young locals. Some of the language might be a bit much for hard core Christians, but I enjoyed this book nonetheless. I look forward to reading about 12 days in some other country soon!

The book was excellent! I couldn't put it down. Knowing that it was the author's first publication, I did not know what to expect. After reading what seemed to be only a couple of hours, I was amazingly surprised! The author did a tremendous job conveying his deepest emotion and added wonderful humor! I highly recommend this book!

Reading this book was interesting, educational, and inspirational. I would recommend this book to anyone who is planning a trip to Ghana, interested in exploring their own family history and roots, and travel enthusiasts. James has done an excellent job journaling his entire trip allowing readers to experience all of the emotions and realities of taking such a journey to find one's own roots.

Potential Readers,During the reading of this book, it is amazing that this is the author's first publication. He really created the moods and emotion of his trip. It was like I was really with the Gaines family on this adventure. Furthermore, being an African American, this book illustrated the value and importance of finding one's roots. In reflection of some of the author's encounterments, it certainly inspired me to make a pilgrimage and dig for the truths of my family history abroad.

Gripping Stuff,
By Frank Sikapa (Great Britain) - See all my reviews

I read the story in this magnificently written book and was fascinated by the content and presentation. The author has written a book, the contents of which might have taken someone else many days or even months to put together. I have heard about the 25 Fortes that dot the coast of Ghana. The description of one of them by the author and its dungeons brought tears to my eyes. His creative writing is second to none. I enjoyed my reading immensely. It made me feel like packing my belongings and touring the whole of the West Coast of Africa. It is that gripping.
