This book has it right. I've known many good teachers who helped me in my pursuit of happiness, some of which are my own wondrous family. I have learned there is a powerful truth behind the instruction to love God and to treat others as I wish to be treated (thanks, Dad). But I have struggled with finding just how to apply that simple instruction in everyday life in a way that satisfies my heart and gives me true happiness. Tommy Nelson's book lays it out plainly, in a very practical way, with three part harmony. He begins with the statement that success is something that you are, not something you merely attain. He then asks 40 simple questions. As I read them, I was astounded, chagrinned, and delighted. Mostly delighted, because the rest of the book is a roadmap. God didn't put us here to be loners but to be with other people, to have good relationships with them (the "treat others..." part), and to help them in their own pursuit of happiness. After finishing the book, I bought copies of it for each of our children as a Christmas gift. I also wrote a note inside that said I wish someone had given me these instructions a long time ago. This book is like being given the answers to a lifelong quiz, and every time I read parts of it, my soul realy does say "yes". Come see what Tommy Nelson has to say.

If you haven't heard of Tommy Nelson, you've missed a great treasure. Pastor of Denton Bible Church north of Dallas, TX, Tommy is a gifted communicator - probably best known for his incredible Song of Solomon conferences that he's taught across the country for years mainly to young singles wanting to know God's plan for love, sex, intimacy and marriage. (Side note: check out [...] to learn more about this incredible ministry). Tommy is not just a gifted teacher and communicator, he's a great writer as well. This book is just practical advice taken straight from God's Word and applied to everyday living. Tommy tackles twelve fundamental issues of life and using God's wisdom, as opposed to man's (see Psalm 188:8), Tommy gives the building blocks of a successful life - and he begins with the foundation upon which that life is built - either on God's Word and for His glory or on shifting sand that will ultimately result in a fallen house!

One great thing about Tommy is that he's a man's man - you could easily give this book to a guy to read because Tommy can hit them right between the eyes with truth while gaining their respect and attention with plenty of sports stories and analogies to keep them interested and wanting more! Yet, at the same time, this book is great for women as well. While not intended to be, I found this a very good book for parenting as well - chapter 11 in the book is Tommy's Eight Essential Vitamins for Your Kids, which is just a gold nugget and should be mandatory reading for all parents!

This book is filled with the wisdom of God's Word applied to every day life situations from work to relationships, marriage to child rearing and everything in between! I highly recommend this book - and buy two, one for you and one for a good friend - they'll thank you for it!

This book is a great book to read and to have for your library. It's an easy read and the 12 "common sense" steps to Godly success are in the Bible (verses provided to prove everything stated). I love this book so much, I will be giving it to some family and friends as gifts.

I recently purchased this book for my husband (father of 2, and very hard worker...@ work, @ home & for the Lord) and he just loves it! He doesn'tr like to read books much but has stayed with this one! He has found many practical applications for a Godly life and deems it very valuable in his Christian walk. Tommy Nelson's style makes this a practical book for any spiritual person looking to be successful. Tommy has a good sense and humor and what seems to be an endless supply of stories for application of the lessons he is teaching us. It was an enjoyable read and can help you align your purpose with God's purpose.
