the "gang" at their very best. all the original 12"versions of brilliant smash hits like "get down on it" or "take my heart". outstanding takes are "open sesame", "hanging out" and "celebremos" (spanish version of "celebration"). this cd completes your kool & the gang-collection perfectly.

Hardcore Funk Legends,

Time period: the 70's. A new style of music; was emerging. Funk, was the sound. Dirty, nasty, sweaty, stankin.Time count; went from 4 count to one count. Latina and African percussions, were added in. Jazz, was mixed in. Rock, was mixed in. Kool & the Gang; was on the start. Along with Miles Davis,Herbie Hancock,Stanley Clarke, even Santana. James Brown, the Godfather of Funk. Had started a revolution. Motown, was leading the school; till Sly and the above mention came out. It was the sound of a revolution. Jesse Jackson, had a hardcoe funk band for his "Rainbow Coalition" Now the young people,we were tired of Motown and R.B. and Soul. This release, represents the entire setting of then. Richard Pryor, even mentioned,Kool & the Gang. So, in these times. The old school, looks down Hardcore funk. As, Gil-Scott said. "The Revolution will not be televised."= wrong spelling. sorry. The Hardcore funk revolution, is still there. The only thing in my opinion; is the use of the word=disco. This is funk, not disco. the only cut, I don't go for. Is the last cut="Celebrate". Disco, took out a lot of Hardcore funk artists. Kool & the Gang, made a comeback, from that disco mess. I still recommend this c.d. for all looking to know the funk and those who are funkateers. On the one.
