This Book Is Wonderful :),

This review is from: The 12 Steps to Self-Parenting for Adult Children (Paperback)
My counselar referred me to any book about, "Self Parenting," due to my tumultous childhood. I am not a child of an alcoholic; however I experienced similiar upbringings of those that are. This book is great if you are coming from a background where you do not feel that sense of family, the roots that a normal/healthy family gives. I have found a lot of truth and grown much through the 12 steps in this book. If followed, healing will definately take place.

I am finding this book very helpful. The chapters are short--30 minute read or less but are packed with useful information. Each step seems very well thought out. Lots to mull over and to begin to apply in your life. Each step parallels one of AA's 12 steps but with a eye toward improving the quality of life left after a traumatic childhood. Each chapter is followed by meditations and daily self-parenting affirmations. This probably isn't the first book that you should pick up in beginning a recovery from trauma but after you have a bit of experience under your belt this is very good for moving forward.

I have been working on resolving several issues from my so-called "child" hood. The book enables me to start a dialog between the wounded inner child and the dysfuntional inner parent.

This review is from: The 12 Steps to Self-Parenting for Adult Children (Paperback)
If your family of origin is dysfunctional, this book and these Steps will be balm
for your troubled soul. Time and again when we read and review a chapter in our 12-Step "Double Winners" group, participants comment on the amazing insights the authors have into our very core -- and that this recognition is an an utterly valid password for trust in this 12-Step process of recovery for children of dysfunction.
