5.0 out of 5 stars Body's itchin', switchin, in my Torture Kitchen!
The Genitorturer's debut album, 1993's "120 Days" is probably the best slice of heavy metal the underground scene has to offer. The Genitorturer's debut album, 1993's "120 Days" is probably the best slice of heavy metal the underground scene has to offer. First and foremost is of course the band's female lead singer Gen; she is successful in performing her vocals with both sensuous purrs and bestial growls. In addition, Gen provides the group's outrageous persona as both a kinky domanatrix AND professional body piercer. Another reason why rock fans should possess this particular CD is its time period: "120 Days" was released a few months after Madonna's "Erotica" album (and her SEX book) were simultaneously unleashed to the an unsuspecting public. Despite all the negative publicity Madonna received, the Genitorturers had both a record AND a stage presence that made even HER images look tame! Another reason why 1993 was a good year for the band was that they forshadowed the emergence of another famous shock artist: Marilyn Manson. In 1993 (one year before releasing THEIR debut CD), Mr. Manson and his creatures of the night (then known as the Spooky Kids) were just another unknown act struggling to make it big in Florida's metal scene, and eventually they became one of the Genitorturers' opening acts! As far as the songs themselves, my most favorite ones are "Reality Check," "House of Shame," and "Pleasure in Restraint." When I hear the latter track, I picture in my mind Gen clutching coils of rope in her hands, stretching it taught and tying her blindfolded "slaves" onto either chairs or bedposts. Obviously, this record is NOT for Britney fans. Heavily inspired by the controversial writings of the Marquis de Sade, this album is a gem for fetishists everywhere, and it's also a disturbingly sexy backstage pass into the world of whips, chains, dog collars and bloodletting. The guitar sounds on here either pound in rattling rhythms or slither across the floor, thereby creating a variety of audio twists and turns interesting to the listener. The only downside to the music is that it's difficult to understand what Gen is saying. But don't worry: all of the albums' lyrics can be read on the Offical Genitorturers Website.

4.0 out of 5 stars This CD kind of scared me...but in a good way., June 22, 2000

Yeah, well, it did kind of scare me. But, like I said, it wasn't a negative experience...really, it was rather alluring. I'm not sure what I would classify the music as...I wouldn't say it was punk or metal or whatever else, but I can make one general assessment about it: it was damn erotic. I've never heard anything that DARKLY sensuous in all my aural escapades (with, perhaps, the exception of much of Die Form's work.) Gen really gets you to think and to question...not only the way you express yourself sexually, but also intellectually. She proved to me to be an acutely intelligent and thoughtful woman. That's a sexy thing. After all, what's more attractive than a woman with a fierce libido AND a fierce mind?

4.0 out of 5 stars Beyond Feminism, January 31, 2004

This review is from: 120 Days of Genitorture (Audio CD)
Rarely does the music on an album give the same feeling as what's on the cover. "120 Days of . . . " is an exception to this rule. The photo of Gen in her bondage gear, flexing her large, well toned, tattooed biceps muscle while seductively licking her torture device leaves quite an impression. The pictures on the inside of the CD are even more disturbing and provocative dealing with S&M and piercing. But, if it's just the pictures are what you're seeking then go buy a book. The combination of artwork and music create an experience that's very compelling.
The sounds on "120 Days Of Genitoture" could be described as industrial metal. They sound similar to Ministry without the drum machine, but not as repetitive, and with more traditional elements of metal. The most amazing part is how well the vocals match the music.
Gen's voice is very rough and abrasive, yet very sexy at the same time. She puts commanding shouts in synchronization with the guitar peaks and breaks. The highly sado-sexual lyrical content grab the listener's attention drawing them even deeper in.
The first three songs on the album come out like a burst of repressed sexuality. "120 Days" is a high energy attack that leaves a ferocious impact. "Reality Check" has a sleazy and hard-hitting effect.
"Velvet Dreams" is a slower song complete with erotic whispers and viscous peaks, and the best song on the album.
There were many female singers in the alternative rock genre at the time this album trying to prove their worthiness to the public like The Breeders, Liz Phair, and Courtney Love. None of them could even come close to exhibiting the power that Gen could. Not even all the efforts by those angry little riot grrls like Bikini Kill, 7 Year B!tch, or Babes In Toyland could hold a candle to this one effort by the Genitorturers.
Gen doesn't waste her time whining about men and not being treated fairly. She radiates more power than most males. Gen is the definition of feminine power.

been out a long time, but this is an awsome band that not too many people have heard of. I had the oportunity to see them live. They do some nasty stuff on stage with bondage and peircings. I watched them hand a guy to a cross and stich his lips up, it was real, and blood was everywhere. Plus their music is heave as H E L L and This girl kicks more but than 70% of the guy bands out there

5.0 out of 5 stars Why Doesn't Anybody Want to Review the Genitorturers?!, October 27, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: 120 Days of Genitorture (Audio CD)
What! No reviews for this album, and their other only had ONE! This is just *wrong*... The Genitorturers are a creative and imaginative band - a lot of people have approached them with the idea of making a documentary about them (Kind of like Madonna's "Truth or Dare," I suppose...) This album is very *hard* or *dark*, but it's also very *GOOD*... Florida just keeps crankin' those psuedo-goth industrial rockers out...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great debut album!, March 29, 2005
This review is from: 120 Days of Genitorture (Audio CD)
I have both Sin City and this album. I loved Sin City, so I bought this album.

It's a great heavy metal album, it's just not exactly very melodic in my mind. But, granted I get angry and I will listen to this CD, and it will make me feel better. I know all the lyrics, and I absolutely love this CD as well. But for repeat listenings? Being as ecelectic and ADHD as I am, I'll need something different. The songs aren't in themselves very unique from other stuff or themselves.

120 Days is a melting pot of metal & industrial. The riffs are heavy and driving, while the industrial overtones create a dark atmosphere. These guys really had something with this sound, I just wish they kept it up on the next album. They put on an incredible live show which was a feast for the ears and eyes.

A fantastic solid album (at least the first seven songs). Sexy, mean, chunky, and tight are the best descriptive words I can find, but if you know what I sayin' and like what it means,YOU SHOULD OWN THIS CD(the second half of the cd is well tolerated). This cd is second only to an unforgettable live show.
