It works. It's lots of space for installing games to your hard drive, downloading songs for Rock Band or those little micro-games on XBox Live.

But good gravy, where does Microsoft buy their hard drives? At nearly $1 per gigabyte, this is borderline insane!

Additionally: WATCH OUT for shops that will sell this without the data transfer kit. The kit consists of a cable and a DVD to get your data off your existing hard drive and onto your new one. Otherwise you will lose all of your saved games and have to re-download all of your DLC for Rock Band (and I presume other games). Do not assume that it will come with the kit. In fact, if it doesn't explicitly say it comes with the kit, it probably won't.

This item is counterfiet i bought it thinking the other people were just trolling but they are right it is not true microsoft. It is not a formatted hard drive and any memory transfered to it will be lost. but fortunately for my Microsoft support will replace it with a real 120 GB HD

I ordered this item thinking I had not only gotten legitimate software, but at a massively reduced price. Upon opening the box, it's clear that this is not official Microsoft stuff. So I go with it, thinking Microsoft is overpriced anyway, and proceed to transfer all of my save game and profile data. After the transfer's over, I make the switch and come to find that the drive is UNFORMATTED. This leads to a complete loss of all my data and no way to get it back. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

No, this is not OEM equipment for a great price. It is an after-market knock-off. Don't let the labeling fool you, especially the "by Microsoft" at the top. It's the "by Microsoft" that burns me; hence the one star rating.

Also, do not expect this hard drive to work on a 360 Slim. The new XBOX 360 with Kinect package is the SLIM model, and requires the internal drive, not this external click-on type.

If these issues don't bother or affect you, then go right ahead...

Hard drive arrived within a few days which was great! However, plugged it into the xbox 360 and it does not show up under system settings, memory. Is there something special that needs to be done in order to make this work or is it dead? If I cant get this working TODAY it's being returned tomorrow! Not a good birthday present for my daughter so far.

This drive is definitely not "by Microsoft". This seller should be revoked from Amazon for claiming that this product is from Microsoft. First of all, Microsoft does not sell drives that come in generic unsealed cardboard boxes with only bubble wrap around the drive. Naturally, the seller does not show a picture of the packaging, but here is an image of it for those interested (http://bit.ly/iiFXqF). Second, the seller or someone else clearly tried to pry open the enclosure, thus causing stress marks on the plastic. This is almost certainly an indication to me the drive is not authentic and not "by Microsoft" as the seller claims. Here is a picture of that damage, which the seller laughably tried to claim must have happened during shipping http://bit.ly/lDJ4uP. Third, and most disturbing to me, is that this seller is located in Hong Kong. There does not appear to be any way to figure out that this seller is located in a foreign country. I recognize that this is likely a personal quibble and that others may not care. However, we have had issues with corrupt postal systems in foreign countries when trying to send things overseas before. I think that Amazon should go out of their way to indicate the country of origin of third-party sellers so that consumers can make informed choices. For me, knowing that a seller is located in a foreign country enters in my consideration regarding how likely I think I am to get a refund or how much return shipping will cost if I need to send it back. I contacted the seller with all these issues, and they insisted that I return the item at my own expense. There is no way in hell I am paying to send a hard drive in a cardboard box to Hong Kong at my own expense with little confidence that I will even get my money back or that the drive will even make it there. The bottom line is that this seller claims that this drive is "by Microsoft", and it almost certainly is not. If that doesn't matter to you, then that's your prerogative, but not everyone will be fine with that I'm sure.

The fact that this drive says "Microsoft Corporation" on the back means it's a counterfeit, because it's a modified item inside of the real enclosure. DO NOT PURCHASE, this is not an official Microsoft product.

My only complaint about this drive is that they do not tell you that it does not have the partition with the original xbox emulation software. I bought this item specifically so my fiance's boys could play their original xbox games on their 360. Admittedly, I should have known better. It was a great price. Instead of returning it, I used to expand my own 360 as I don't care about backwards compatibility. The drive works great for my needs, I just wish they would indicate that it can't be used to play original xbox games.

It says when you buy it that it's "By Microsoft," which i don't know how that's not illegal, but it's not by micrsoft... Thank god i got a crappy transfer cable with this otherwise i would have been like many other unfortunate people who lost their data all together. Overall, for your own sake: do NOT buy this.

I was a little concerned when the package arrived as it was in a generic box. I thought perhaps it would be inferior or have issues but the product worked as promised right out of the box and was brand new. I'm very happy with my purchase as the value was excellent. The product shipped quickly and arrived on time with no issues.
