Editorial Reviews

The shootings at Columbine High School on April 20th 1999 ended thirteen lives and shattered countless others. But while the tragic events of that day were well documented, the stories of the families who lost loved ones and struggled to build new lives have yet to be told. Bound forever by unimaginable circumstances, these thirteen families lived through the same tragedy, yet each has dealt with the aftermath in their own way - and each has a different story of how their lives have changed. 13 Families weaves an intimate tapestry of hope, providing the families a forum to tell their personal stories - stories that are not tainted by any media angle but rather seek to tell the unvarnished truth of their experience. The families provided the filmmakers exclusive and unprecedented access, sharing insightful and intimate details of their lives. What happened to the Columbine families could happen to anyone, and perhaps that's why the event had such an impact on the nation and the world. What the film demonstrates is how ordinary individuals can be confronted with a sudden and devastating loss yet find the strength to move forward. In addition, the film touches on the issues of gun control, school violence, and the painful reality that tragedies like Columbine and Virginia Tech continue to plague our nation.

This is a tough movie to watch for me. I know some of these families, and I know Columbine.
This is a sad movie, a beautiful movie, a necessary movie, and a movie that is real.
Sad at times: these families all lost a child or father in the Tragedy.
Funny at times: The Kechters relaxing in the mountains and their comments are poignant and sadly funny.
Inspirational: This is the reason to see this movie. Tom Mauser and his story is inspirational, with his lonely pursuit to change the gun laws. The Kechters and their lives are wonderful to learn about. The other families that shared are such warm and nice people, they will teach you some of the value of life and love.

These are real stories about the real people involved in this tragedy. This movie captures the real people and the truth of what they have been through, and are still going through.

A great narrator too.

This is a very well told story, and has a great deal of depth. It is not superficial, it is real and touching, and, at times, heart breaking.

Yes, you should see it. Yes, you should see it.
You will cry, but you will learn.

Randy

In a world that continues to shock us with random tragedies, this film takes a different angle. By interviwing the families of the Columbine vicitims, you get a rare glimpse of the humanity behind the headlines. Everyone should see this film, to get their head out of the 'why?' question and into the heart and soul of the matter. Real families that lost real children and loved ones.

I was in the US for the first time a few days after Columbine, so I do remember this tragic event well. This documentery tells the story of the families who lost a love one on april 20th 1999. Good to see the families have heeled a bit since Columbine. This documentery is a must have for people who are interest in what happenend at Columbine High School and want to know a little bit more about the 13 people who were killed and their loved ones. Let us hope that tragedies like Columbine won't happen again if you realise the pain these 13 families had to go through.

This movie was a great disappointment I was super excited about getting it but it was boring and closed minded. I love true crime docs and stories but this had little facts about the victims and almost zero about the shooting. Nothing special...
