Great Soundtrack,
This review is from: 13 Going on 30 (Audio CD)
I love '80s music, so after I saw the movie, I knew I had to buy this soundtrack. It is one of the rare soundtracks filled with songs that were actually in the movie rather than thrown on there just to drive CD sales. It is a great blend of '80s music and music that is popular today. There is a song on here for every mood, so there isn't a good reason why someone shouldn't like it. Yes, it is disappointing "Thriller" wasn't on here, but the rest of the songs more than make up for that. If you have a wide variety of musical tastes, then you should get this soundtrack. Like the movie, it will make you feel good about yourself.

No one seems to have mentioned yet, but I adored the song that was playing when Jenna was shopping at Chanel and had the green masque on. It's called "Good Day" by Luce.

If you liked the music here are most of the movie's songs,

Listening to the soundtrack for "13 Going on 30" only confirms for me that this script was kicking around Hollywood for a couple of years (they were originally thinking of doing it with Renee Zellwegger). In this film young Jenna turns 13 in the year 1987 and then ends up as Jennifer Garner in the year 2004. But look at when these songs came out: "Head Over Heels" by the Go-Go's is from their under appreciated 1984 "Talk Show" album, Rick Springfield's big hit "Jessie's Girl" came out in 1981, "Burning Down the House" by the Talking Heads in 1984, Madonna's "Crazy For You" is from 1985, Belinda Carlisle's "Mad About You" is from her first solo album in 1986, and Soft Cell's "Tainted Love" is from 1982. The two most important songs in the movie are Michael Jackson's "Thriller" from 1982 (you knew better than to expect it to show up on this album) and Pat Benatar's "Love is a Battlefield" from 1983. There actually is one song from 1987, Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," but everything else is earlier. The difference is such that the original Jenna, when this script was first written, made it to high school by the time it was filmed and took place in 1987 instead of three or four years earlier. Yes, "Ice Ice Baby" is from 1990, but, hey, it is not Jenna's song in the movie, so there are no problems there in terms of my working hypothesis. Anyhow, this soundtrack does a good job of having all the songs that are featured prominently in the movie except one, the aforementioned "Thriller." So if you need to stop off to pick up this soundtrack on the way home from seeing the movie because being teased by hearing the songs in the movie brought the '80s back to you in a rush, then you are not going to be disappointed. This is not a bad little collection of songs from that decade, even with Vanilla Ice thrown into the mix, but the chief attraction will be those who liked the movie and memorized the choreography for "Love is a Battlefield."

Crazy For This Album, But Not A Thriller,
By Melanie Hawthorne "MelHanie" (North Bellmore, NY) - See all my reviews

I like this album a lot--my only qualm is that it doesn't have the main featured song, "Thriller" by Michael Jackson. I was especially looking forward to buying the album for that and I'm disappointed to see it doesn't have it. Overall, though, the rest of the album is good. Pat Benatar, Rick Springfield, and Madonna just can't be beat.

I Know Why "Thriller" is not on the soundtrack,
By
This review is from: 13 Going on 30 (Audio CD)
Ok, the reason "Thriller" isn't on the soundtrack is because it all comes down to liscensing from the various record companies. I'm actually surprised they were able to get Madonna on there. See, it costs much more money to get the big artists, and Michael Jackson is one of the biggest. Also, depending on the label that released the soundtrack, it's much easier to get stuff that is already on that same label. Also, liscenses are different for films vs. the sountracks even though it doesn't necessarily seem logical. Thank big corporate America...

Argh! Where is Thriller?? Thriller is absolutely an EXTREMELY important song in this movie. Good grief. Nevertheless, I still recommend this soundtrack if you enjoy 80s music. Besides the ghastly lack of Thriller, it is a good compilation of songs.

Where's the most important song?!?!,
By A Customer
This review is from: 13 Going on 30 (Audio CD)
This CD includes some of the most popular 80's songs to reflect the tone of the movie. However, where's Michael Jackson's "Thriller", the most important song in the movie? It played a major part in one of the biggest scenes of the movie, so why was it omitted? Also, Michael Jackson is one of the biggest music influences of the 80's, so not including one of his major hits in this soundtrack is a tremendous oversight.

A Great Soundtrack for a Great Movie,
This review is from: 13 Going on 30 (Audio CD)
This soundtrack adds funs and excitement to an already great movie with the classic 80's preppy-fun music. The music on the CD is actually in the movie which is something that sometimes doesn't happen with soundtracks. The mixture of artists on the CD really makes it one that a lot of people can relate to, even kids like me who were barely alive to see the 80's. The people that were alive and kickin' in the 80's appreciate the nostalgic feel of the album, I'm sure. The only let down I saw was the fact that Michael Jackson's "Thriller" wasn't included. It plays a key role in the movie and I was disappointed that it wasn't on the soundtrack. From Pat Benetar's "Love is a Battlefield" to Billy Joel's little known "Vienna," this CD rolls through the whole way. All-in-all, the movie was great and the soundtrack continued that greatness.

I saw this movie, and all the songs made me cringe in memories.. Honestly, this cd rocks. Its got all the great songs that you're ashamed to blast in the car, but you just can't help but sing along. Especially the 'burning down the house' song.. that is the best!
