OZARKS RETURN!,
By Plain Truth "Jamie" (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 13 (Audio CD)
You can't keep a good band down! After 25 years these guys just keep getting better. "13" is the perfect Album to display an overall view of the "Ozark Mountain Daredevils", musical style. This CD could have been recorded in 1974! Don't be mistaken, this isn't an Album of "Old" songs...more an Album of "New" songs with an "Old" feel. Each track displays a typical "Daredevils" mood, Laid back, good time with a few up-beat numbers, just to get your foot tapping a little faster. A quality Album from start to finish. The Rolling Stone Record Guide Quotes - "The Ozark Mountain Daredevils sound like what might have happened if Jed Clampett had brough himself the Eagles to make records with". Unfortunately this is an unfair comparison, and "13" proves it. This is an Album full of First Class singing and song writing even after two decades! A fine testament to a Band that has not given up on the music or changed to fit the 90's Countryimage. Bottom line - Sometimes the more things change, the more they stay the same. If this Album was released in the 70's it would still be one of your favorites now. Re-live the past, enjoy the present and look to the future with "13".

that there is no justice way too aften in the music biz. Somebody in the biz ought to promote the hell out of this fantastic CD! When great bands that sold a boatload of records re-unite years later and decide to "do it their way" (i.e., produce it theirselves) and it turns out great, it should be backed and supported. But too many music execs have their head up their .........All of the Ozarks are at their best here (unfortunately, still missing from action is the great Randy Chowning----whose contributions on the band's first 3 albums are masterpieces). John Dillon's "Dream-O", "Over Again", "Tear In the Rain" are, as always, fun and beautiful. Larry Lee is back with a tour de force in "Where Are We" and a fine song (do they write bad ones?)cowritten with Steve Cash called "If It's True". The irrepressible "Supe" Granda stands out with "Standing On the Corner of Live & Learn". Steve Cash is at his funky best with "Bad Road" & "New York". And the rest.....well....yada, yada, yada, kudos, kudos. It's all great!! Timeless-melodic-folk-rock-country-bluegrass-rockabilly-swamp music. Music from the heartland. Hills, pastures, streams, and dive bars. Music from earth. One of the truly great and unique bands of all time. It doesn't get any better than this folks.

The Ozarks are back and Better than ever,
By

After standing on the brink of greatness in the 70's and seemingly plunging to thier professional deaths amid drugs and bad record deals, the Ozarks have proven themselves to be as resiliant as the mythical Phoenix, rising from the depths after two decades without a peep, the group proves with 13 that they really did have the talent to have held their own in an industry that cuts no slack for mediocrity. This album if not better, is at least the equal of ANY of their previous recordings. A must have for any fan. Now if we can get the remaining albums re-released on CD, the world would be perfect.

Was so pleasantly surprized by this new CD, not that Im not a OMD fan just because I am, and enjoyed their 70s music so much that I didnt want to be disappointed and I shurly was not. the OMD where one of the reasons I took up learning how to play guitar in the early 70s..and Now Im pickin to their 13 album (oops..CD) songs along with the greats...It'll shine when it shines. I had to even go internet hunting to see if I could find any concert footage of them...and sure did..a 1979 Canada concert (the Forum presents "Ozark Mountain Daredevils) it has "it'll Shine ..." on it even (what a treat..too)..not the best video footage but sound great for a 20+ year old second (or so) generation re-recording VHS. They even played here in my home town of Batesville Arkansas..Aug of 2002. Fellow OMD ers..go the their site (www.ozarkdaredevils.com)for re issues of 70 albums on CD..and email A&M records for a reissue of the "Shine" album to CD sense it was planinum they wont let another label reissue it.check out Michael Supe Granda's site also, for solo etc stuff of his. I want to keep these good old boys going for as long as possiable...so if you can find them a gig...emaiL their manager (check their site) And no folks I dont work for them...just a fan. Mike

There are so many good songs on this CD. From "Standin' on the Corner of Live and Learn," to "Tear in the Rain," every song is a masterpiece. There isn't a song on this disk that I don't like. Not only is this a new Daredevil album but it also features former member Larry Lee! He wrote 2 songs on the album and sings on (he does backup vocals on "Love is Calling."). This is a wonderful collection of music. A MUST HAVE to any Daredevil fan!

A Pleasant Surprise,

I recently uncovered some old OMD LPs from the 70's, and immediately re-fell in love with them. While searching Amazon to find CD replacements for the old LPs, I stumbled upon "13." The reviews looked promising, so I took a chance. And am I glad I did! I was pleasantly surprised to find that the group sounds as good as ever. Variety is insured by the fact that the songwriting and lead vocals are shared by all the members of the group ... and each one has unique talents. In my opinion, there's not a bad track out of the thirteen. This is one of those rare times when I'm considering picking up an extra copy ... to make sure that I have one for home and one for the road.

Just received my copy of "13" and it's a classic. Will be one of your all time favorite OMD recordings, just like all the rest of their music.

Conjure up an image of sitting on the veranda with a tall glass of sun tea or hard cider and take a trip back to a forgotten place. I'm sure glad I bought this. These boys still can kick! This cd keeps finding its way back into my player. The sound from this band just keeps soaring.

Do you feel lucky? You will when you get your copy of "13". Don't be afraid to order it now. This is a great collection of new songs from the Daredevils which they are now performing live. Yes, live! The guys still have it in them, and with four of the original members involved on "13" it really is true to form.

The classic Daredevils sound is fully intact.,

The Ozark Mountain Daredevils break a long exile from the studio with "13," which should satisfy longtime listeners and, if the country songs (such as "Bar Hoppin'") on the disc get the airplay they deserve, maybe even attract some new listeners. The sound the Daredevils achieve is reminiscent of the great debut album. The songwriting is excellent, the performances convincing. Way overdue to put out a new album, the group delivered a fine one.
