High quality mellow electric archtop jazz,

Eps is one of the all time great jazz guitarists, probably the greatest as far as chords go. (He is no longer with us, but his recordings are, hence the present tense.)
I've had this album a long time, I play it for anybody and they know its good. Great cocktail music (not that I or anyone else I know drinks those). The down side is, I can't tell who is doing what, and the whole idea is to have a recording of the great George Van Eps. However, it all has classic non-warhorse standards performed with that great mellow Eps electric archtop sound, great chording and good soloing. If you are looking for something good to add to your collection, you won't go wrong with this. Caveat: I know little about Eps' reputedly classic but historically hard to get solo recordings, nor their present availability; I'm just writing this because there was no review and I happen to know this one's worth having. |
