An Expression Of Pain,
By Kolors "Jimmy" (Pocatello, Idaho) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 13 Ways To Bleed Onstage (Audio CD)
Cold falls under what I call a depression band. A depression band with the likes of Staind, Korn, NIN, and ect. Cold is a definate band that uses it's music to express one's inner most demons. Through the lyrics, frontman vocalist Scooter expresses a variety of painful emotions dealing with the likes of love and lonliness. The title of this record proves my point exactly. "13 Ways To Bleed On Stage" deals with the letting out emotions on stage, preforming music. With deeply personal lyrics, combined with creepy guitar work, and less dominant drumming, Cold easily has worked their way into the minds of dark music lovers everywhere, as well as the radio. The first song on the album "Just Got Wicked" is probably the heaviest song on the album and was a perfect first single. Following it is the emotionally charged melody "She Said" which is a song dealing a past relationship gone wrong. Next is the lonly song "No One" dealing with emotional isolation, which is recently playing across hard rock/alternative stations everywhere. Also on the record we have beautiful songs like "Confession", "Same Drug", and "Sick Of Man." The album closes with the beautifully painful acoustic track "Bleed", which features Aaron Lewis of Staind on backing vocals. Definatly pick this album up. Well worth the price.

WOW Absolutely Amazing,

I don't think it is too often that an album can grab you completely by surprise by just how good it is. This one did. I am not even quite sure why I bought this album, possibly just curiosity. I'm really not sure what I was expecting when I got my hands on this record but whatever my expectations were, they were completely blown out of the water. This is one of the most incredible albums I've ever heard. It's a bit difficult for me to even describe the music. Something like Staind meets Godsmack. The songs can be very hard driving and intense and they can also be very soft and quite simply beautiful. For me this album actually caused a great deal of introspection. And I think they were able to do that without being pompous. Simply put, they aren't full of themselves. They just create some of the most incredible music I've ever heard with lyrics that are simple, and yet amazingly powerful. The album actually has a very dark and moody tone to it, something that I would almost expect from a band like The Cure. While the mood may be that dark, but the music is actually completely different, much more metal than bands like that. Like I said, the bands overall sound is a lot like Staind or Godsmack and on several tracks the singer could pass for Gavin Rossdale of Bush. One of the things that makes this album so great is the bands ability to transition speeds without ever loosing flow or momentum in the album. The album is smooth from song to song, and there are no fillers on this record. Every song is great. The highlights of the album are "Just Got Wicked", "Anti-Love Song", "It's All Good", "Bleed", "Witch", "Send In The Clowns" and "She Said". I know that's a few too many songs to list as the best on an album, but this is really just one of the most incredible albums. This is a band that with a bit of airplay could be absolutely huge. If you haven't heard anything by Cold, you need to. This is what modern hard rock or nu-metal should be.

Melodic, mellow, yet powerful,
By Robin (Isle of Man, Great Britain) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 13 Ways To Bleed Onstage (Audio CD)
Having been a huge Cold fan since January 1998 when their self titled heavy post-grunge album rumbled onto the shelves and immediately captivated me with it's moody brilliance, it's been a long wait for this CD. My hopes were high as I put it in my CD player, and as the current U.S. single "Just Got Wicked" came ripping out I was secure in the fact that Cold had at least one surefire killer song on "13 Ways...". As the album span onwards I discovered that Cold had changed somewhat, this is a far more mature record than "Cold" ever was, with more melodies and song structures. Although there are more mellow songs on this album, and not so many heavy moments (although these can be found), the impact of "13 ways..." is no less, and is probably more so, than the first album. Standout tracks for me here are "Just Got Wicked", "She Said", "It's All Good", "Send In The Clowns", "Same Drug" and the beautiful acoustic tribute to the love of music that is the last track "Bleed", which features Aaron Lewis from Staind on backing vocals (to contrast this he appears screaming on "Send In the Clowns"). Overall this is magnificent and dark mood music, unmistakably Cold but with a more refined edge, Scooter's lyrics and singing as powerful as ever. As ever defying the stupidly overcrowded and dying nu-metal scene, Cold have stumped up another masterpiece. Best album I've bought this year.

A good band that hardly anyone knows about,

unfortunately, cold usually ends up being lumped in with label mates limp bizkit and staind and all the other bands of their genre. it's really a shame because with the exception of staind and deftones (among others), cold really has defined their own unique sound. and unlike fred durst, skooter can actually sing. while not quite as crisp as aaron lewis' voice from staind, the vocals on cold's new album offer the same well done but distorted sound found on their debut album. this time around though, the production paid a little more attention to making the lyrics intelligible. which is a good thing because also unlike fred durst, cold can actually write good lyrics. its a lot more akin to poetry than the pre-teen fake anger posing that seems to be all limp bizkit can produce. as for the songs, their first single from this album, 'just got wicked' sounds very much like most of the songs from their first album, 'cold,' and really is the only song that doesn't find cold trying to pursue some new little sonic nuance, such as the oddly beautiful piano solos on 'she said,' and (possibly the best song on the entire album) the low-key balladesque 'bleed.' bleed is really a perfect way to end an amazing album by sort of bringing the whole thing into focus. the meaning of '13 ways to bleed on stage' is exposed in the eloquent lyrics expressing how music can become a part of your life and a necessary tool with which to pour out your soul, to literally bleed all your emotions out in a way that is both poignant and deeply satisfying.

A Higher Level of Nu-Metal,
By Karlito Brigante "I'm Gonna Die Big Time" (Melbourne, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 13 Ways To Bleed Onstage (Audio CD)
Lets face it, wheter its Korn or Staind, Limp Bizkit or Sevendust, Nu-Metal (or alterna-metal) is not the most creative music, nor is it the best quality stuff either. Luckily, I found Cold, a band which on "13 Ways to Bleed on Stage" echoes the Seattle grunge era, but adds the down tuned guitars of Deftones. Its hard to believe a band of such quality was discovered by the crowned prince of dullness Fred Durst. Cold is able to sing of angst yet is able to shed its Staind related image. A good example of Staind would be adding the vocals and grind of Godsmack with the mystique and creativity of Tool. But aside from comparisons, Cold's "13 Ways to Bleed on Stage" is somthing completely original in the dull conforming world of POPULAR Nu-Metal. The best tracks on the album are "Just Got Wicked", "She Said", "End of the World", and espeacially the spectacular "Send in the Clowns". The only flaw with this album is its lack of diversity in the music. But, still, if you are a fan of the MTV Nu-Metal, go outside the box for once and pick up this album.

A band that knows how to play REAL music,

to tell you the truth, i bought this album because of its cover. I thought that this was going to be a gothic/hardcore band, and to an extent it is. But after putting it in my cd player, i was pleasently dumbstruck. The singer doesnt scream (except for about 10 seconds on "Send in the clowns"). the guitars have a melody to them, and the lyrics have a definate meaning. They even make good use of a piano in two of the tracks. This band poured out all of their feelings out into this album, and thats what makes this so good. The cd ends with an acoustic song, "Bleed", which, along with the song "confession" i think have to be the most powerful and heartfelt songs on the cd. Definately a cd to listen to when you feel depressed. its weird, but it seems you always feel better after listening to the pain of someone else. If youre only interested in stuff like slipknot, dont get this cd, but if you like to hear ACTUAL music, get this today. You wont regret it.

Cold = One Of The Best Bands Ever,
By
This review is from: 13 Ways To Bleed Onstage (Audio CD)
13 Ways To Bleed On Stage is one album that unleashes alot of Hardcore songs by COLD, with good lyrics and nice music riffs. I havent yet picked up their debut album, but 13 Ways is one of my favorite album I have. Once again COLD is described as sounding too much like Staind. They dont sound nothing alike in my opinion. COLD and Staind are both great bands, and I perfer COLD over Staind anyday.1. Just Got Wicked (5/5)-This song is totally great to start this cd. I love the Guitar Riffs on this song. 2. She Said (5/5)-Scooter starts & ends with a nice piano riff, which leads into the rest of this great song. 3. No One (5/5)- I like this song alot. 5. Confession (4/5)- Good song, nice lyrics 6. It's All Good (4/5)- Also a good song for this album. 7. Send In The Clowns (5/5)- One of my favorites on this entire cd. I love how Scooter ends this song. To me he reminds me of Jonathon Davis from KORN at the end of this song. Which totally rules because im a huge Korn fan. 8. Same Drug (4/5)- Nice Song 9. Anti-Love Song (3/5)- I didnt like this song THAT much, but maybe you will like it. I might just not listen to it alot. 10. Witch (5/5)- I love it love it love it love it! Awesome song. 11. Sick Of Man (4/5)- Good song. 12. Outerspace (5/5)-Lyrics to this are very good. I like it. 13. Bleed (5/5)-Scooter and Aaron make this song a must listen. Nice way to end this album. Overall, 13 Ways To Bleed On Stage is a very great cd to get. If you dont like this album a whole lot then pick up Cold's new album "year of the spider" which is a very great album. Pretty much different from this cd. Though, I like both of them.

AMAZING production (recording quality),
By
This review is from: 13 Ways To Bleed Onstage (Audio CD)
Ok, i normally don't post reviews on here, but i've heard complaints about the "recording quality" on this albums - the drums specifically.
I am actually a recording engineer, and let me tell you: this wasn't a low-budget album. The sounds that are dirty and dingy - like the drums on most tracks - are SUPPOSED to be that way. If you want pristine perfectly-tuned and poppy sounds, then listen to music that lends towards that sound. This album DOESN'T. The drums give an overall dark ambience to the rest of the tracks - the drums lay the ground for the emotion of this album, and the vocals are the cherry on top. The guitar sounds link in between - and they do it amazingly. Adam Kasper had the biggest hand in the production of this album from the ground up, and he KNOWS what he's doing (Nirvana, mudhoney, foo fighters, the list goes on) Great album. In my top twenty for sure.

A little over a year ago I surfed in to Staind's site. On the site they had a little information about this band Cold and how Aaron Lewis did some backing harmonies on this song "Bleed." I listened to the song, and I was blown away.Bleed is a positively beautiful song, and shortly after listening to it, I rushed out to buy 13 Ways to Bleed Onstage. I expected something entirely different. Where I expected Cold to be more like Staind, with a lot more crunch and thump with a few acoustic cuts here and there, I actually found an album full of extremely melodic songs with a few heavier songs interlaced throughout the record. If you're expecting something crunchier and heavier, then you might well be disappointed by this cd at first listen, as I was. But it grew on me, and eventually I just couldn't stop listening. Scooter has a low, rich singing voice and the guitarists and bassist do an excellent job of expressing emotions through their instruments, while the drummer keeps it all tightened down with thundering beats. Cold is NOT a "nu-metal" band. In fact, they remind me a lot more of something like... Cat Stevens or Harry Nilsson with distortion pedals and lots of tattoos. :-) Really, I could not have imagined something this good coming from a band with as little exposure as Cold. In fact, I couldn't have expected something this good coming from a band that has a LOT more exposure than Cold... It's a beautiful album with a lot of depth and wonderfully deep, colorful, artistic songs. In other words, this record KICKS [BUTT]. I can't wait to see these guys live.

I remmeber when I first bought this , I got it when year of the spider came out and being new to cold at the time i listen to this album and thought is was ok then I listen to it again and was blown away by this album ,it quickly became one of my favorite albums and bands . Scooter Wards vocals sound amazing , the music sends chills down your spine just in the first few seconds of the 1st song just got wicked and in the song send in the clowns as it builds up as he says send in the clowns then it just exposeds and he screams send in the clowns. But over all there are no bad songs on 13 ways to bleed on stage , it one of those albums thats u can listen to and not have to skip any songs. I have to say my favorite songs are just got wicked , end of the world, confession , send in the clowns, witch, and bleed. I highly recommed this album and year of the spider and there self titled album .
