5.0 out of 5 stars What a WONDERFUL machine !!
I can't say enough good things about this Singer....it is truly lightweight ( a plus as you get older), fast to set up and most importantly, QUIET !!
I do my sewing late at night (in the dining room), and don't have to worry about waking my Husband or my Grandkids (I babysit) asleep the next rooms....Quiet is a BIG plus in my book.
The manual is easy...

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Money
I've had this less than a year and it has been nothing but trouble. It jams up constantly, breaks thread and needles. Then to discover that the root cause of the problems is a PLASTIC gear in the mechanism. Very poor design.
I got better performance from my mother's 40 year old machine.

The manual is easy to understand, the machine is easy to set up and I had no problem setting up for the "fancy" stitches, or filling a bobbin.
Whether you are replacing an older sewing machine (as I was) or buying your first one, I would highly recommend the Singer 132 Featherweight Compact Efficiency Sewing Machine...I think you will be very happy with your choice!

5.0 out of 5 stars More than meets my expectations!, March 20, 2003

I decided to replace an old "clunker" Brother sewing machine with this one, and I'm happy I made that decision! This machine is light-weight, I can lift it with one hand, and it is also SOLIDLY built. I find the engine quiet, compared to other machines. I tried all the decorative stitches, they are easy to apply by turning a knob. The machine and bobbin are very easy to thread. I am a beginner sewer, and I am happy that I made this choice. The machine came with several accessories, including a blind stitch foot, a zipper foot and a buttonhole foot. I have not tried these yet, but I do believe I am tempted to take up a sewing class and use this machine to do more than general repairs or sewing up straight lines.

Hassle-free operation; capable of everything that the product description claims. Compared with the monster I learned to sew on (a Singer 9020 -- horrible machine), this is a dream! I started sewing within five minutes of opening the box. The only caveat I have for fellow shoppers is that the manual's instructions are at times curt and the illustrations are occasionally unclear -- so unless you are familiar with sewing machines in general you may have some trouble getting started.

I am new to sewing and was overwhelmed by the all the options and price ranges when it came to purchasing a machine. I opted to start on the lower price range until I determined if it was a hobby I would keep! I purchased this machine and had absolutely no problem setting up and following the directions. It has all the basic functions, and within an hour or so I was on my way to starting my first sewing project. I love it and have no regrets about purchasing on the lower end of the spectrum. This machine has 32 stitch options but I find myself using only a few basic ones anyhow. I recommend this machine for those interested in learning the basics.

ONE OF THE BEST DECISIONS I MADE WAS TO BUY THIS MACHINE. I AM A BEGINNER, THIS MACHINE IS A GREAT PRICE AND VERY EFFICIENT. THE MANUAL IS VERY EASY TO READ AND EVEN THOUGH IT'S NOT PORTABLE, A LITTLE ON THE HEAVY SIDE. THE STURDINESS IS UNBEATABLE. I BOUGHT THIS MACHINE BECAUSE OF THE REVIEWS I READ, AND MONTHS LATER I HAVE NO REGRETS. THE STORAGE WAS A BIG PLUS AND THE ACESSORIES THAT CAME WITH IT. I AM ABLE TO TEACH MYSELF HOW TO SEW..STARTING FROM THE BASICS WITH A BOOK CALL SEWING 101 FOR $25.00 AND THIS LITTLE MACHINE. A GREAT BUY ! EASY TO LEARN AND VERY COOL LOOKING.TRY TO GET IT ON SALE WITH PROMATIONS I RECEIVED MINE ON AMAZON FOR $120.00 WITH ALL THE REBATES COMBINED.

I have been looking for a good basic sewing machine, nothing over complicated. I am a novice when it comes to sewing and wanted a machine that I can actually operate. I took it out of the box and was sewing that very evening. The machine runs smooth and is not loud while running. It's just what I wanted and I am quite pleased with it. This is compact and lightweight, but well made.

This is the easiest machine to use. I had an old Singer that my grandmother gave me (ancient!) and ended up throwing it away because I couldn't figure out how to load the bottom bobbin. With this machine I was ready to sew in a matter of minutes. Includes a great user manual (for those of you that, like me, aren't that well versed at sewing). Not only is it easy to set up but it is self guiding - it virtually sews for you.

Great machine at a great price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for basic sewing, February 3, 2005

I've needed a good basic sewing machine for a few years now and finally got the Singer #132. I couldn't be more pleased with it. It is light, quiet, easy to set up and practically works itself once you get started.

The manual was very clear and easy to follow, although I do think it was a bit skimpy.

The machine was easy to set up. Filling a new bobbin and threading the needle were a piece of cake.

The foot pedal, tension adjustment and other controls were very easy to use...although I feel the reverse lever might be hard for anyone with arthritic hands, and the clutch wheel is much to easy to engage or disengage if you're turning the stitch wheel by hand.

The machine does everything I ask of it, and does it brilliantly, except when I get to multiple thicknesses of fabric. It gets a little balky when I try to sew mitered corners and such-like. But other than that, I'm really impressed by the model.

For someone who just needs to sew seams, repair clothing or do small projects, this machine is perfect.

For the record, I grew up sewing on a 1950s-era Singer that was one of the crankiest, balkiest machines I have ever owned. I was therefore hesitant to buy another Singer. A neighbor convinced me to give the company another try, and I have to say that she was right.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE this machine!, August 27, 2004
This review is from: SINGER 132 Featherweight Compact Efficiency Sewing Machine (Kitchen)
After reading the wonderful reviews on this machine, I bought it. I'm a beginner at sewing, and this machine is so easy to use. I absolutely love everything about it. I was sewing on my grandmother's old machine (which weighed about 50 lb.s, no joke) before I bought this one. This machine is so light and easy to carry. I love how quick and easy it is to thread the machine and the bobbin. I just love it!! Oh, and it's very quiet. I have a 13-month-old, and I sew in the room right next to her bedroom while she's sleeping. She doesn't even stir! I highly recommend this machine. It rocks!
