5.0 out of 5 stars Shocked to say this
I have always loved Fish and supported his work. But I never thought I would be saying this. This album is not only the best thing he has ever done but it's better then the last couple Marillion albums. And I am a huge Marillion fan. Been to 3/5 of their fan conventions over seas. The production on 13th Star is stellar. The emotion and personal nature of the material is...

3.0 out of 5 stars He just keeps going...
Good music, good musicians. Good production, good artwork. Yet again, a bit lacking in the melody catagory. The guitar riffs are often more memorable than any of the vocals. A step in the right direction though after the ghastly Crows CD.

The production on 13th Star is stellar. The emotion and personal nature of the material is really special. It's actually one of the best albums I have ever heard from start to finish. And I own about 3,000 cd's. What a strong effort by Fish.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fish - Treams Up With Bassist Steve Vantis For A Solid Album, September 18, 2008

Fish's most recent release seems to have received some of his best reviews in a long time from both critics and fans alike. Personally I think some of his earlier work ("Sunsets On Empire" comes to mind.) is better, but 13th Star is a solid album. Most of this material was written by Fish and bass player Steve Vantis. Vantis brings a more contemporary feel to the proceedings and in general toughens up Fish's sound a bit. Lyrically Fish is often at his best when going through a relationship breakup ("Misplaced Childhood", "Fellini Days") and 13th Star documents his well publicized split from one time fiancée Heather Findley from Mostly Autumn. Fish's voice is not what it used to be, but what he still has fits the material well here. Highlights include "Circle Line", "Square Go", "Zoe 25", the single "Arc Of A Curve", the rocking "Dark Star" and the album closer "13th Star". Although from a commercial perspective Fish's fortunes have declined over the years, he continues to put out quality work and this album should be another crowd pleaser for fans of the big man from Scotland.

Have the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cds from Fish. Lost touch for awhile, but this one renewed my interest. A strong CD. The man sounds in good form, nice songwriting. Worth buying for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good!, March 19, 2008

A very good one, in fact I think is one of his best solo records. "Zoe 25" is one of my favourites.
