This is my first 2.4 Ghz phone and so far it has worked well. It doesn't sound any better or worse than my 900 Mhz Panasonic phone and the range is comparable as well. The only annoying thing I have found is that you have to set the clock on both the handset as well as the answering machine and the clock setting is not retained by the answering machine if it loses...

This is my first 2.4 Ghz phone and so far it has worked well. It doesn't sound any better or worse than my 900 Mhz Panasonic phone and the range is comparable as well. The only annoying thing I have found is that you have to set the clock on both the handset as well as the answering machine and the clock setting is not retained by the answering machine if it loses power, while the handset does retain this data. The price is very competitive with other brands, but if you are on a tight budget, a 900 Mhz phone is probably sufficient and cheaper.

I bought this model a little over a year ago, and I've had nothing but problems. Fortunately, AT&T will replace the defective phone while it is under warranty, this is the only good thing about this phone; so far I'm on my third phone and it's just now going on the fritz. Here are the problems I've had: The original phone I purchased stoped recharging because the contacts corroded. Customer service sent me a replacement and within a month the caller ID box stopped displaying incoming calls on the replacement, the caller ID box would just read "ringing" when a call came in. After another call to customer service I received my third, which no longer holds a charge because the handset slides forward in the base unit. All and all, I would never recommend buying this product (not even to my worst enemy), but the one good thing is the manufacturers warranty renews itself with every replacement...at this rate I'll get a new phone every few months for life.

2.0 out of 5 stars Keep shopping..., April 5, 2005
This review is from: AT&T 1460 2.4 GHz Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Answering System (Office Product)
I bought this phone about 8 months ago after a thunderstorm killed my Uniden. Given the similarity of the menu options, I suspect the AT&T and Uniden models are actually made by the same OEM.

First, a rant: this phone (and the Uniden before it) has a "remote access" mode whereby you can control the answering machine remotely (listen to/delete messages, change greetings, etc). This mode is protected by a very weak 2-digit numeric code. First, it's unforgiveable to use such a weak code. Secondly, there doesn't appear to be a way to disable remote access! Bad.

Anyway, At 8 months, the phone is showing signs of failure. Beginning last week, the phone has stopped receiving callerid information. It merely displays ***RINGING***. Similarly, the call activity LED on the AT&T base console no longer flashes when a call has been received. Looking at some of the other reviews, it seems that my problems are not unique.

I think I paid $50 for this phone but whatever it was, it was too much given that it has lasted less than a year. For comparison, my other phone is a $7 no-name Wal*Mart special (it too has callerid and call activity LED). It has yet to miss a beat.

My recommendation to potential buyers is to keep looking.

This is my second one plus I bought one for my parents. It is easy to use and I like the speed dial numbers which are hard to find in a phone.

We've had this phone for over 3 years now... and it still works great. I believe I've only replaced the battery once. I would recommend this phone.

2.0 out of 5 stars Only lasted two years, March 12, 2006
This review is from: AT&T 1460 2.4 GHz Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Answering System (Office Product)
Bought this phone a couple of years ago to replace a failing not-very-old Sony cordless (doesn't anybody make quality phones any more?). I noticed immediately that the sound quality was not as good as the Sony but we got used to it. Within the last few months though the sound started cutting in and out so that you can't hear the caller. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Maybe something is loose inside, I don't know but the phone is no longer usable after two years. We never used the answering function so I can't comment on that. Anyway I just ordered a Panasonic 5.8 GHz phone last night. Hopefully the third time is the charm.

I bought this phone on sale about 5 months ago at Walmart for $25! Best phone I ever had. It will stay charged for days at a time! I'm serious, I've left it off the hook to test it a few times. It never dies in under 5 days. The sound is great. You can adjust the volume about 5 different notches. With other phones, I was always struggling to hear the person on the other end but I've had no problems with this phone. It's pleasing on the eyes, holds tons of numbers and is simple to operate. You get a choice of 3 differnet rings and of course, all the obvious things like caller ID, an answering machine, etc. I'm not sure why mostly everyone else here has rated this product so low. I LOVE it! :)

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a good phone, July 2, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: AT&T 1460 2.4 GHz Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Answering System (Office Product)
The sound quality was really poor, worse than Panasonic KX-TGA2224, which in turn is worse than GE 27998GE6, which is good, but not as good as those SONYs they have sadly stopped making (yes, I personally have tried all of these). There is a reason they are putting the price down. These things, if they sell, they get returned (like I am doing).
