4.0 out of 5 stars Surprised!
I was looking for a phone that would give me an answering machine, caller id, phone book and cordless. I received all of that. The only thing I am missing is the speakerphone. It does not have one. When I was searching, I forgot about that small detail. I can hear the messages very clear. The instructions were very clear on how to hook up the phone. This was the only...

I live my life by the guidance provided in the leading consumer magazine. Unfortunately, it was dead wrong in this case. This phone bites--I strongly recommend not buying it.

If I had read all the negative reviews, I would have never bought this phone. But I am thankful that I didn't read them, as this is the BEST cordless phone I have ever owned. I have NO COMPLAINTS. It has great sound, is easy to set up, and the answering machine works great. I also purchased one for my son, and he is very satisfied with it.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's not surround sound!, August 14, 2005
This review is from: AT&T 1465 2.4 GHz Analog Cordless Phone with Answering System (Black/Silver) (Office Product)
The phone has lots of nice options. However, when you're talking, it has a hollow sound to it. Even if you try and change the frequency, it doesn't improve much. Also, if you change frequencies during a call, you better tell the person you're talking to because they might think you've hung up while it's searching for the next frequency. All in all...it's an okay phone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Agree with Consumer Reports, a great phone, March 1, 2006

I bought this phone after having many, many other phones that didn't keep a charge, had horrible reception, made loud noises, and had a disconnect button right by your cheek so you hung up on people all the time, so we went to Consumer Reports this time. We are, so far, 100% happy with this phone after 3 months of use. We can understand all the messages, the volume controls are easy to use, the buttons are convenient, and the reception is great. For the price, it is the best we've found.

This review is from: AT&T 1465 2.4 GHz Analog Cordless Phone with Answering System (Black/Silver) (Office Product)
Very satisfied with purchase. Everything was as advertised. Only one issue - there is some static or white noise in the background periodically while talking to another party.

I bought this phone 2 months ago. It was very easy to set up and instructions were written clearly. THere is hardly any static and volume can be easily adjusted. The answering machine is excellent. So far I am very satisfied and happy with this phone. I don't regret buying this phone.

Works well right out of the box, but you must turn on answering machine. Directory and speed dial features are great, but entering names in directory is tedious. Headset is uncomfortable to hold between ear and shoulder. Ring tones choices are all awful. Does not appear to be a way to change ring volume.

This phone with answering system was very easy to use, but the poor quality of voice sound made it fail the most basic test. I typically love talking to friends and family on the phone, but during the few days I used this phone the voice sounds were so annoying I couldn't wait to hang up.

An additional missing feature is what I now know is called "chain dialing." This feature allows you to use several memories in sequence. My older AT&T phone allowed this without any special feature beyond having several memory locations. Without this capacity, using a long-distance phone card that requires an access number plus a PIN number prior to dialing the number of the person you're calling becomes arduous.

3.0 out of 5 stars You can probably do better., January 31, 2006

This review is from: AT&T 1465 2.4 GHz Analog Cordless Phone with Answering System (Black/Silver) (Office Product)
This phone is functional. Unlike others, I've had no problems with the basic operation. Personally, I find the design quite unattractive, but tastes differ. I got it because of good reviews in consumer magazines, etc. and because I needed another answering machine for a second line.

I don't find the sound all that good but it's passable. One problem is it is not very intuitive to set up and there is no speaker phone.

My major annoyance with the design is that you cannot dial people who call you back by selecting their number as this unit does not dial a 1 prefix before these calls. Oddly, when I had it connected to a cable phone line this was not a problem but now that I am back with my local phone company all these calls are rejected. And all the entries I made in the address book in the past are now not usable. As there is no way to "insert" a "1" before the numbers in the address book, you have to redo the whole number. Tedious and it makes adding the numbers of people who call you into a major chore instead of the easy task it should be with better design.
