Buyer beware,

This review is from: 1492 Conquest of Paradise: Music of Vangelis (Audio CD)
This type of album is a problem with buying on the 'net. It's a 'carbon-copy' album by a group of electronic musicians which lacks the soul of Vangelis. In a real shop it would be sold in the bargain bins, on Amazon it's listed (and recommended) as a Vangelis album. Sure the playing's not too bad, but when the originals are out there and easily available from this store, there's no need to waste your money

Close-but not the real thing,

This CD, as the customer's review before mine rightly points out, is not performed by Vangelis but rather by Space 2000. Some of the rendidtions are almost identical to the originals, but still falter somehow-the lack they soul of their creator. Some tracks are well produced such as "Bittermoon," "West Across the Ocean Sea" and "Echoes of Antarctica, whereas the rendition of "Blade Runner" is laughable. If you're a big Vangelis fan, this CD is worth having, even if only to compare renditions.

Why???,
By A Customer
This review is from: 1492 Conquest of Paradise: Music of Vangelis (Audio CD)
This is completely copied album of Vangelis. I was really disappointed. Why did they release this kind of nonsense album? I thought this was made by Vangelis himself, when I bought from HMV. After I listened, I realized "Hey, this is something funny, this ain't Vangelis who I have known." And I saw the linernotes,Space 2000?. "Who is this?" I can tell that there is no soul as original Vangelis did. Every songs were seemed like programed by computers(sequencers). There is no human touch. Why did Vangelis let them release this album? Why?

I've read the reviews on this cd and none mention that it is not performed by Vangelis, but by Space 2000. These are very admirable renditions of the Greek Synth King's best offerings, but those expecting what appears to be a Vangelis compilation CD may be disappointed. Nothing can compare to the real thing.

Vangelis is the greatest composer of the 20th century,

This review is from: 1492 Conquest of Paradise: Music of Vangelis (Audio CD)
Vangelis is the greatest composer of the 20th century and 1492 is one of his best albums. If Beethoven and/or Mozart were alive today, they would often be found kneeling before the altar in a shrine they had erected in Vangelis' honour. Vangelis' music transcends the barriers of time and space, it is cosmic and universal - His music is immediately spiritual without being dogmatic in any way. It evokes profoundly elemental visual imagery and allows the listener to access ancient primeval, chthonic memory sources.

Why so expensive?,

This review is from: 1492 Conquest of Paradise: Music of Vangelis (Audio CD)
I see here that some people are led to believe this is real Vangelis, while it's not. That said, as a Vangelis fan, and not-so-fan of cover versions that add little or nothing to the original music, I have to say that I've heard better ones. But again, why buying an expensive cover versions album while you can get the original Vangelis por much less? People: get compilation albums like "Themes" + "Portraits" (or "Odyssey") and you will get the fresh and unparalleled Vangelis in full splendour, and cheaper.

One of Vangelis' best CD's !,
By A Customer
This review is from: 1492 Conquest of Paradise: Music of Vangelis (Audio CD)
If you're a fan of Vangelis and liked "Chariots of Fire" and "Bladerunner" this CD won't let you down ! All the musical pieces are intertwined with one another and the music has a smooth, flowing rhythm. There are no breaks in between songs and very few lyrics, which makes it extremely relaxing and easy to listen to.

Vangelis- 1492 Soft-flowing, relaxing music!,

I highly recommend Vangelis 1492- Conquest of Paradise to anyone who enjoys Vangelis' previous work. This is the type of soft flowing music that allows your mind to travel to far-off places. If you need time to relax, meditate, or escape from the real world for a few minutes...this is definitely the album and the artist for you!
