I have had one of these for 4 years with no problems until last week. I vacuumed out the vent slots and keyboard every other month. I have carefully vacuumed out the motherboard area and cleaned the single CPU/graphics chip (it is soldered onto the mboard) yearly. I use ccleaner after every IE8 internet surfing and Security Essentials with never a problem.
Works great in all respects and doesn't get terribly warm under the palm rest area. Fingerprint reader is a big plus for logon. Bluetooth is great for mobile phone data transfer. Full size keyboard is excellant as it the WXGA display.
Note: You can't upgrade this to Windows 7 as ASUS doesn't have drivers for all the features on it. You can upgrade it to 64 bit Vista to put in more memory.
ASUS is very good answering Support related emails.
Windows 4.6 rating for games: Plays FarCry, FC2, Crysis, Crysis2/Warhead, Halo, and Fallout New Vegas (in medium setting). Screen locked up last week and it was the nVidia chip running too hot when playing FNV. No LCD graphics, just backlight. Service places said the nVidia chip got too hot and no parts available to fix it. The broken image shows it still works fine (logon, internet, etc. - on the TV via VGA cable) just no display on the LCD. Can't get anyone to fix it or a replacement mboard (with the chip on it). So, if you buy this one, use a cooling pad for more airflow to avoid my error or just don't play newer video games so much on it.
I got it for $900 delivered and would get this one on Amazon if the price was around $500 as there are faster, new notebooks for $700 and up that have HDMI out, DDR3, i7 CPUs, etc.
Great while it lasted.
