I received this chess set as a gift, and I love it! The board and pieces have been constructed very well of solid wood that should prove to be very durable. A feature not found with similar sets is that the board doubles as a case for the pieces which are actually held in place individually so they don't bounce around and get chipped. This is an excellent gift idea for any chess player or anyone who wants to learn!

This fine set offers perhaps the biggest bang for your buck in terms of quality, size, design, and portability for a mid-range chess board. Width-wise, its folding size is that of a book, and just as easy to carry. The pieces are weighted Staunton wood pieces, and the polished board itself has an elegant appearance. I highly recommend this for anyone; it will last many years.

Only negative: The set's only detraction is that it does not come with extra Queens. But you can substitute pieces or just use another set. I prefer the plain-jane plastic weighted Hastings tournament piece sets which are inexpensive and highly durable.

My boyfriend has been wanting to teach me how to play chess, but neither of us had a set, so I got him this one for his birthday. It's fantastic. Very compact, easy storage. Looks sleek. Pieces aren't very heavy, but they also don't chip (which his old ones did). A great selection for beginners and casual players.
