Product Description

Product Description

A favorite "good bug," ladybugs have been a popular part of the Orcon line of beneficial insects for the past 20 years. When released at sundown (because they don't fly at night), ladybugs eat aphids, mealy bugs, scale, leaf hoppers, and other destructive pests. And they keep on eating until the bad guys are gone, laying their own eggs in the process. When new pests arrive, fresh ladybugs will be waiting. You will love them because ladybugs really work, plus they will be doing something favorable for the environment.

LADYBUGS (Hippodamia convergens)

USE: Ladybugs prefer to eat aphids and will devour up to 50 a day, but they will also attack scale, mealy bugs, boil worm, leaf hopper, and corn ear worm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great way to get rid of aphids on tomato and rose plants, March 22, 2008

Used them to get rid of the aphids on my aerogarden plants in the house. If you release them when the room is dark and the door is shut they make their home on the plants. When it gets light out and you open the doors the next morning they've already settled in on the plants so they don't fly around the house. They got rid of tons of aphids within a few days. Something that I tried to do safely for 2 months with no success.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth trying if you have an aphid problem, June 15, 2008
This review is from: 1500 Live LadyBugs - A GOOD BUG! - Lady Bug
We had such a bad aphid problem that it made our backyard impossible to use without getting covered in little green bugs in a matter of minutes. I purchased one package of the ladybugs. They arrived alive and wiggling in their container w/almost no (if any) loss on route. They come with easy to follow directions including washing them upon arrival, refrigerate and release at dusk. We released them three days ago. While I don't actively see many of the ladybugs now (most I assume headed for the tree where I think most of them were), there is a huge reduction in the number of aphids in the yard to the point that my husband was able to sit outside and enjoy the yard for a few hours yesterday. I will probably buy one more package in a week or so to get any straggler aphids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! That is a lot of ladybugs., June 17, 2008
This review is from: 1500 Live LadyBugs - A GOOD BUG! - Lady Bug
I really only wanted about 100 ladybugs but 1500 was the only amount I could find. Hirt's shipped them very quickly and I had them in less than a week even being shipped to an APO address. My wife about killed me for getting the bugs. I was surprised when I opened the box and saw all the ladybugs moving around. I thought several of them would be dead, but it appeared all or nearly all of the bugs survived. I rinsed the bag and refrigerated the bugs like the instructions said to do. Then I released them right before it got dark. All of the ladybugs seemed to crawl around and find a place to stay.
I am very happy with my purchase from Hirt's.
