5.0 out of 5 stars Great addition to your theatrical library
This is a great audition resource, as it not only has the songs already broken down into audition-ready length, but it also includes a wide variety. There are pieces from shows old and contemporary. And although some of the music goes a bit over 16 bars, this is generally nto a big deal. It's maybe two-four bars over. Directors are typically more concerned with your voice...

1.0 out of 5 stars okay for community theatre or non-professonals only
These volumes are NOT useful for any aspiring professional or college level music theatre student. The cuts are not from the actual scores and leave out much useful information for the student and accompanist. I have been a professional audition accompanist for many years and have been dismayed to see these books hit the market. If you want a good 16 bar cut that shows...

These selections keep it close, though.

The book has some songs that I could NEVER imagine singing for an audition (pop songs, cheesy disney songs, and even a commercial jingle) but most of them are good, in the original key. Some go over 16 bars but it works out anyway. I would recommend this book for anyone. A lot of the songs in it are from the Singer's Musical Theatre Anthology, so get that too.

Although I have not actually auditioned using this book, I was impressed with the songs included in the book . . . nice variety. Also, I am a 2nd soprano at best and the songs are very much in my range. The vocal arrangements are such that you can easily demonstrate your talents in 16 bars. I will definitely be using it in future auditions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent, April 8, 2006
This review is from: The 16-Bar Theatre Audition: 100 Songs Excerpted for Successful Auditions (Vocal Collection-Mezzo Soprano/Belter) (Paperback)
I like the book alot and find that it has helped me a great deal. Although I wish it had some more current Broadway shows, such as Wicked, Hairspray or even Thoroughly Modern Millie.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT GOOD, September 28, 2008
This review is from: The 16-Bar Theatre Audition: 100 Songs Excerpted for Successful Auditions (Vocal Collection-Mezzo Soprano/Belter) (Paperback)
You should not buy this book. Although this may seem good for auditions, most directors and pianists are going to want the whole song. Some might even refuse to play for you unless the whole song is in there. And what happens if they want you to sing the whole song? YOU CAN'T! Trust me, this is not a good thing.

The book is in really good shape and it's just what we needed. It took a long time to arrive. It would have been better if the shipping could have been faster.

This book is a great thing to have for anyone involved in the world of theatre. It does the hard work of picking out a crucial 16-bar piece of a song for you! Great for auditions. The book has selections from musicals (old and new, familiar and rare), as well as movies (even some Disney!). There's one for every vocal part. Granted, not every piece is exactly 16 bars. Some go a bit over, but this is usually excusable due to proper phrasing. It's well worth looking into for those who are just starting out. It's also a way of introducing yourself to a variety of musicals.

I'm very disappointed in the condition of the item I received. I purchased a NEW book, but received one in VERY poor condition, with the spine broken in several places, and several "dog-earred" pages. I attempted to reach the seller to see if seller would make things right, even giving extra time to get past the Holidays, but I received no respoonse. Too bad, because I hate to resort to negative feedback.
