4.0 out of 5 stars "A bit to much Funk", October 4, 2002
By
Anthony J. Canestro (Floral Park, New York United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 16 Grandes Exitos (Audio CD)
First lets start by saying I'm a very big Orquesta Guayacan fan. I just love these guys.
"La Otra Cara" (The Other Face) is a different sound then the usual Guayacan sound. The music is very good, but the lead vocals are more funky then usual, almost sounding flat at times. For the Guayacan fan this takes some listening time to adjust! .
The songs done with gusto and typical Guayacan quality is cut # 5 "Por Bocon", #6 "Son Cepillao Con Minue" (This one really cooks!) and #13 "Mi Herencia"
The orchestra as usual is GREAT. The vocals for my taste are just a little to funky on their delivery.
The musical directors should be more selective when choosing vocal material and arrangements for this GREAT group!
As for a recommendation, I prefer the more commercial sound for Guayacan. It's not their best work, but I still like the album!
It's pleasing to know this approach doesn't exist on their newer releases!
The audio engineering is at times sloppy with the fade-outs (Clipping).
All Guayacan fans should own this CD! I'm glad I do!
