5.0 out of 5 stars Start with THIS Stuart Davis CD, December 1, 2000

This CD will give you a taste of what makes live audiences fall in love with Stu & his music & his BRAIN. The banter, the quips, the improvisation, the virtuosity is all evident in this live CD. Who else gives up precious CD real estate for a parody of Rick Springfield? The whole range is here--the spirituality (yes! it's NOT a dirty word!), the double-entendres, the freak show stories, the simple laundry-list lyrics that make you go "hmm..." It's like pleasant aerobics for your grey matter & soul. And when he finishes with Narcoleptic Mary, you don't know whether to laugh or be sympathetic to the woman with her head in the soup bowl. And he makes you feel that either reaction (or both) is acceptable and expected. No shame--that's what Stuart Davis is about. He's not ashamed to be male, to be spiritual, to be crass, to point out the obvious, to be intelligent, to be angry, to be scared, or to be sorry. This is the one to buy. (Then you'll find yourself buying more & lobbying for him to play your hometown!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Stuart is best LIVE, January 4, 2001
This review is from: 16 Nudes (Audio CD)
Prolific boy that he is (How many albums now?), appreciating Stuart is easiest live. This is the live CD, and these are his classics. If you're just curious about his sound this would be the best album to purchase, that is if you can't make a show. Check out the official webpage at www.stuartdavis.com, for more info.

5.0 out of 5 stars Free Minnesota!, August 11, 2000

Stuart is more than a guitar virtuoso, his lyrics are intelligent, witty, sharp, and thoughtful. But the true talent of Stuart Davis is best experienced at his live solo performances. Stuart relentlessly tours the U.S. and some of Europe, I would highly recommend attending. If this is not possible, or if you cannot wait, i would recommend this CD. It is the only live compilation Stuart has released, but it gives you access to that intimate performance space feel. Enjoy this album.

Wow. There is no-one like Stuart Davis and nothing like this CD, a quasi bootleg of one of his concerts. Brilliant, a little crazy, edgy fingerstyle guitar with 160 IQ songs and startling topics. No moon in June on this CD, unless June was the name of the woman in the mermaid costume that he describes seducing and becoming addicted to waterbeds.. . .I'd rank this CD with up with Dylan's first album, the Beatles Revolver; If Robin Williams and Sylvia Plath composed songs together and they were played by Adam Sandler on Acid - that doesn't even begin to touch this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars get it while you can., October 12, 2007
This review is from: 16 Nudes (Audio CD)
i have never seen stuart davis live, and after hearing this cd i can add that fact to my list of life's regrets. this is about as fun a live set as you're likely to hear. fans of warren zeavon should dig this; in fact, everybody who appreciates great songcraft should dig this. "only changing drugs," is the greatest ode to alcoholism that i've heard (it's also the funniest). mr davis's personality flies off this recording straight into your face, and he's a heck of a acoustic guitar picker, too. this is an obscure item and not likely to be around forever. as i write this, there are only 5 copies available at this site. get one while you can.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stuart RULES!, June 6, 2001

The other day my friend made me listen to "Practice Dying," prefacing it with "You'll love it! It's this hilarious song about suicide." I thought she was crazy, but listened anyway. I am so glad I did. 16 Nude is one of the best CDs I own. Stuart is funny, but also touching. And he is just SO awesome LIVE. "Jonah" is probably my favorite song; his awesome guitar and powerful lyrics combine best there to make something extraordinary. Stuart is funny, talented, and beautiful. You will definitely not be sorry you bought this CD.
