This review is from: GE 16466 18-Inch Basic Fluorescent Light Fixture (Tools & Home Improvement)
I needed a 18" light fixture to hold my UV bulb for my bearded dragon's (lizard) habitat. It worked perfectly. Despite the fixture's plastic body (which I preferred as it was more light weight and easier to mount) it's build quality is just fine. It has 2 sets of mounting holes allowing it to be mounted on the wall or ceiling.
For those interested in using this fixture for their reptile, and are using a glass vivarium, I recommend mounting it with 2 or 3 3M all weather velcro-style strips ( [...]). These worked perfectly for me. I also used a Zoo Med Reptisun 10.0 18" UV bulb ( [...] ). Zoo Med has great bulbs but I find their light fixtures and other accessories very cheaply made. This fixture is 10x better than Zoo Med's own fixture and it's cheaper. You'll want to mount the fixture inside the vivarium, but out of reach of your reptile. Having UV bulbs sitting on top of screens can block a significant portion of your UV light. For the same reason, you'll want to forgo using the included light cover with this fixture.

This review is from: GE 16466 18-Inch Basic Fluorescent Light Fixture (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased this light fixture to replace a blown (and partially melted) marquee light in a video arcade cabinet. I believe the normal use for this sort of 18" lamp is for kitchen cabinets - well this time instead of under a cabinet it went in one!It came with a wired ungrounded plug, the bulb pre-installed and the diffuser already attached. Removing the diffuser is just a case of squeezing it slightly and it pops off but the bulb however took some jiggling to get out - here's a tip, always remove and reinstall the bulb and then test the light before putting the unit in its final destination as you never know how sturdy the fittings are until you try to remove the bulb. As was the case here, the bulb was stuck fast so it was a lot easier to remove it without the fixture in situ. Once removed and put back in it twirled with relative ease so I know that when it's time to replace it I won't be a tough job. There's an on/off switch to the left and the power cord also comes from the far left of the unit which in my case was a pain as all of the other wiring from the speakers and so on in the cabinet was on the right. This meant I immediately 'lost' 18" of cord but fortunately the 5' cord was just long enough to reach the power source, although adding extra extension cabling wouldn't have been a massive job. The light has screw holes for both under cabinet and on wall mounting although the instructions specifically said to not mount vertically - not sure why. So all in all I'm very happy with the light and the price. Worked a charm for my needs and hopefully with the GE name it will last years.
