This review is from: AMP 16GB SaberTooth S4 70mm SATA Mini PCIe SSD upgrade for Asus Eee PC (Electronics)
I have the EEEPC 900A (1.6GHz Atom, Linux and pitifully slow 4GB SSD standard) and before this upgrade my netbook was near unusable. I was displeased with the original Linux install (slow, unintuitive) and tried both EEEbuntu, Ubuntu NBR and settled with the fan favorite of XP. All unusably slow.
Installed this baby and I have a brand new laptop. The XP installation absolutely flew (as much as it could, I was installing from a flash drive) and I still have a good 8GB or so left after the Office, SP3 upgrades, and various web browsing apps and plugins installed. Very responsive, quick load times for anything off the hard drive (boots in about 10 seconds from BIOS to login screen and about that from shutdown to completely off). I got it for $60 with free shipping, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. If you're looking for a fast drive for your EEEPC and don't want to break the bank with the expense of larger drives, this 16GB will suit your needs just fine (unless you want to install Vista or XP.. then go with the 32GB). It has enough room for the OS, a few programs or two, and if you're still on the stock 4GB SSD drive, you will be shocked by the performance. **NOTES** This is a SATA drive, and most EEEPCs come with an IDE drive standard. Though the connectors are the same, this and other SATA SSDs will not be compatible til you upgrade the BIOS. Check Asus's site for the file, be sure to pay special attention to which model you have. Google "update eeepc bios" and it should be the first result, it'll tell you how to upgrade. After that, if successful you'll be able to install this. BIOS flashing, when done incorrectly, WILL brick your computer. Do not do this if you are uncomfortable with this possibility. To install Windows to an EEEPC (or any other netbook) I'd recommend using WintoFlash (Google for it). You simply choose a USB flash drive and the location of your Windows disk and it does all the formatting so you can boot from it, and it copies the files. When you boot, for the EEEPC hit Esc until you see the screen giving you boot choices. From there, choose your flash drive. Chose part 1 first, then EVERY TIME AFTER THAT, UNTIL YOU BOOT INTO WINDOWS, CHOOSE PART 2 AND DO NOT UNPLUG THE FLASH DRIVE! Only after you see the desktop and are able to reboot without hitting escape and choosing the flash drive will you be able to safely remove it.

My EeePC 900a came with a 4 GB SSD. I'm more familiar with Ubuntu, but with Eeebuntu 9.04 installed it had only 50 Mb free. I installed the 16 Gb SSD - it was a breeze, reinstalled Eeebuntu, also quite easy, and installed Saurbratten. It loads amazingly fast and I had it running as a lan server and client player without a problem -- except my 12 year old grandson who whooped me bad!!!!!!! This SSD is amazingly FAST both loading and storing - very nice!
