2.0 out of 5 stars I'm really glad I didn't pay money for this April 7, 2014

I love crafts and have more stuff in my "stash" than I will ever use up. I bought this book because the pictures on the cover were brgith and pretty and I love flowers. Unfortunately, the pictures inside are not big enough to help understand the directions. One of the patterns called for a Fiskars Creativity System which I had never heard of. I looked it up and it is a die cutting system that one needs to buy additional dies in order to use it. I have had a Cuttlebug die cut machine for many years and have no plans to replace it any time soon so that flower pattern was not something I could make. I already know how to gather a strip of fabric with zigzag stitching over a heavy thread. The book said to use embroidery floss but I have had good luck with dental floss because it almost never breaks so that pattern was not of use to me. The book only has 17 ideas so that is two down. The tissue paper roses made from heart shaped petals are not even pretty. There is one lily pattern that might be of use, it was near the end of the book and I was getting frustrated with the lack of good pictures by then so I was only skimming.

One pattern said to fold a strip of fabric in half, iron, open it back up and sew a line of gathering thread down the center. Then refold, cut the edge into scallops and sew the scalloped edge closed. This is when I wanted a bigger picture to see if that is really what they did. Why sew the edge closed? Scallops, even 2" big ones are pretty hard to sew and these were already cut out so the fabric is going to stretch on the curves. It just sounded wrong to me, but since I couldn't enlarge the picture to see how it was done I can only guess--and I won't be doing it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Book is fixed April 5, 2014

Just downloaded this book (4/5/14) and it is the correct book now. Very cute paper flowers, there are step by step instructions for some flowers, but not all. The flowers aren't very realistic, but still very nice.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good introduction April 10, 2014

If you are new to flower crafting this is a good start. I was looking for a book with more paper flower crafts and this book did not have what I was looking for.

This book has some great ideas but unfortunately you need to buy equipment that you either can't afford or you don't even know what it is. Of the 17 patterns there were only 9 I was interested in 3 I want to look at deeper and the rest will be impossible to do. Another thing that bothered me was that the title said "How to make paper flowers" and I was expecting to find those at the front of the book but they had the fabric flowers first. Since I don't do any sewing that was disappointing to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars paper and fabric flowers August 26, 2014

There were 17 patterns, photos and instructions in this book for many different kinds of flowers. Each was unique and used a different type of technique. The reason I rated this so highly is because the tutorials were clear and included photos, and if you master these techniques you can make a multitude of different flowers on your own and of your own design. I got this book to teach my daughter a new craft, but I am excited to try these too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a must have book..... August 7, 2014

I love crafts but this book is a little confusing, as it offers directions for some items but not others. It also uses fabric but it states paper. It has great ideals on most of the items. But this is not a MUST have book. As, it does repeat some items both in paper and fabric instead of stating you can do this in paper or fabric. The flowers are not real looking, and i am not sure they would hold up to hard wear and tear.

3.0 out of 5 stars Missing pics and templates August 23, 2014

For most of the flowers it seems the instructions are clear and easy to follow. I did notice there are a few flower instructions that refer to pictures that were not included in the book and it would've been helpful to have. I also would've like to have templates to print for some of the flowers. Most of the flowers do not need templates making this book a nice edition to my craft collection!

3.0 out of 5 stars Paper Flowers Galore! September 18, 2014

The book 17 Flower Craft Ideas: How to Make Paper Flowers was a free download. However, the book contained a number of very creative ideas that I enjoyed reading about. I plan to give the tissue roses a try along with a few of the other flower ideas. In my opinion, this is a good basic crafting book for the beginner that would like to start making their own flowers to display or just for fun.
