Unfortunately this trap did not work as well as I thought it would.

The doors don't close quickly enough to lock them in and I had one that was able to pry it open, as the wire the cage is made of is too thin.

If you are trying for squirrels or small rabbits, this should work fine.

When I got these traps (I ordered 2), I was immediately impressed. They are sturdily made of a powder-coated metal, probably steel, and have a very nice trip mechanism. I bought them solely for chipmunks, and immediately baited them and set them out. For several days, I found the trap tripped, but empty. I thought the trigger mechanism was faulty, but the next day found a chippie inside. An hour later I got ready to take the trap out for relocation, and it was empty. Hmmm. I measured the door, and it is about 4" wide, but the opening is 4 ¾", and the door slides freely from side to side. That ¾" opening is plenty of room for chippies or rats to walk right out. So, with this trap, you give your chippies a nice meal, then they laugh and wave as they stroll out to cause other mischief.

If you are trying for squirrels or small rabbits, this should work fine. But for chippies, the poor door design makes it worse than useless.

The squirrels are eating up all my fruits on my fruit trees so I need to replaced my former traps. The traps I had previously were good. It's been years when I since them online and forgot where I got them from. And this trap looks similar to the ones I had. When I read a previous review about this trap saying that there was a big gap on the door, so it's no good for chipmunks, otherwise it works for bigger pests. I figure squirrels may be alright. So I bought two of these traps.

Day one of setting the trap, all the baits were gone from outside and inside of the trap, the door was still wide open. It turns out the trigger latch was stuck against the catch wires. So it took some strong force to free the latch.

Day two, I adjusted the latch to make sure that the trap can be activated when trigger. Few hours later, all the baits were gone and both cage doors were down but no pest inside. It turned out that the traps were trigger and the doors came down, but the door weren't locking. Any pest can walk out of the cage easily. This is an extremely bad quality cage.

I'm back on the cage hunt again. I just ordered couple havahart cages, hopefully they are better. In the mean time, I'm going to check my credit statements to see if I can find the company that I bought my first set of cages from.

I bought this for squirrels that were raiding my plum and pear trees. It's advertised for squirrels but it's either not big enough or the door doesn't shut hard enough because the squirrels were in and out w/ the bait, and laughing at me from the huge maple tree next door. I did catch a baby possum but only because he is sooooo slow.

We bought this trap because we do not believe in killing animals, but we didn't necessarily want them in our house. We have caught 4 red squirrels and released them back into the wild, far from our home. We baited the trap with peanut butter and peanuts out of the shell; it worked every time! This is a perfect trap for those of you who don't want to do any harm to animals. The only issue I have, if you can even call it that, is that the door got stuck and we had to play with it to fix it. This happened just after we got it, so it was new, but we were able to correct it. Despite this, I would highly recommend this humane trap.

Where do I even begin...The latch would not lock, so I had to add another coil to the latch. Once that was fixed, I had to fix the door because the door wouldn't close all the way. If an animal were to go in there, they could just push the door open so I had to add weights to the door. Once that was fixed, I had to bend the trap arm because it would only go off if the animal weighed over 7 plus pounds. Then I had to grind down the inside door because if I caught something (which I never did) the animal would cut itself by trying to go back out through the door. Before I even started fixing the problems associated with this cage (out of the box) there were paint flakes everywhere and the problem got worse when I started fixing this thing. I've never seen powder coat flake off that easily, maybe house paint but not powder coat. I should of sent this back when I first received it.

I went cheap on this, and oh well. No instructions -- and you need them -- and hard to trigger the door to close. I jerry-rigged something with a thread tied to bait that pulls out a popsicle stick that holds the door open. Maybe I should just adopt the darn chipmunk -- he's been with me a week. Thelonius is a good name for a chipmunk...

Spend more, get something that works (or is comprehensible).

I've had other cages that are better. Once you set the cage, there is a very
small opening. Good Luck!

I grew up in the old days when Have a Heart Traps were sturdy and easy to use. This piece of junk came with no instructions and made in China. I would not buy this again.
