3.0 out of 5 stars An average-looking volume, April 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 1758 Annual Register: Special Collector's Edition (Hardcover)
It was quite a shock to see this volume being sold at such an exorbitant price here, and at first I thought it must be a leather-bound, truly unique collector's edition. I decided to purchase it through a third-party seller since it was much cheaper (under five dollars plus shipping). The book arrived in excellent condition and I am very glad I did not purchase it at the retail price.

Firstly, this is not a leather-bound edition. It is bound in cardboard backing, and has a pleasing, smooth texture. The title is stamped in gilt on the cover, back, and spine. It is mentioned on the cover page that this work was first edited by Edmund Burke in 1758, and contains a new introduction by Paul Langford. I was rather disappointed at the print quality of the actual text. Some parts of the text type appeared faded. I assume this was due to the defects in the original, but I could be mistaken. Given that the language of the text is of the year 1758, readers do need to be familiar with the English of this period, with examples like "Suetonnius de'cribes the crimes of Nero with a coldne's that 'urprizes us,..." It is a nice enough edition, but is unlikely to interest serious collectors.
