I've used this stack cutter for about two weeks. It does my job well, with a little patience.
PROS: Great price compared to others. Cutting mechanism works well. Heavy and stable.
CONS: The laser guide offered on some other machines would be an enormous benefit in precise cuts. It is difficult, without scribe lines on a master sheet, to line up the paper exactly.
The adjustable backstop, even when clamped down securely, allows paper to slip under the front edge, thus destroying an accurate cut. I solved this by slipping a 1/16" thick strip of wood under the paper just in front of the backstop so that the paper cannot slip under.

By taking the time to mark scribe lines on my master so I can adjust perfectly, the machine works like a charm. The best way to line up a master sheet is to line up the scribe lines with the cutline that the blade makes on the blade stop.

In short, for $300 more I'd have bought the laser-adjusted machine. But for the price, this does the job well.

This inexpensive guillotine is a great buy. I can cut my books, business cards, etc in bulks, saving a lot of time. I also love the accuracy of each cut. I'm sorry i didn't purchase it sooner and i'm also considering buying one that can cut larger than letter size documents. I recommend this guillotine for any small business.

1776 Publishing Professional Industrial Guillotine Stack Paper Cutter Machine
Very helpful tool to cut through binded material sent by other companies. You'll spend more time scanning the items into your system rather than unbinding the material.

#1. It arrived broken-- the metal crank that secures the paper had a crack in it. It was functional, but did not appear to be sturdy for the long term

#2. It didn't cut in a straight line. I lined up my item on the grid, and got a slanted cut.

#3. It produced a beveled cut-- meaning the top page was cut differently than the bottom page.

Some of the other reviewers have commented on developing ways to work around the inaccuracies of this cutter. I wasn't been able to get mine to cut accurately.

I returned the product for a refund. The company that handled this was responsive about the return, and the customer service was good.

This item was delivered in good condition, and company responded immediately to any question that I had.

Regarding the cutter, I noticed that it takes a little practice to cleanly line up the paper/book so that it's even. There's no real way to know exactly where to cut until you make a few cuts, and then you can use the mark on the cutting stick as a rough guide. Make sure you tighten the holding block fairly tight, otherwise your book (or paper) can slip when you're making the cut.

Overall, it's very easy to use. The cutter seems pretty durable, and I anticipate long life out of it.

Nothing exhaustive here, but just a note to point out that, though this cutter might be the best "pro-sumer" bulk cutter available (if it is indeed available yet), it's not accurate enough for small pieces, or for real precision at any size.

It's heavy and pretty well machined, but the design of the backstop and its lock-down is not adequate for making really square cuts. (My initial results were so disconcerting that I complained to the supplier. They sent me a replacement backstop, but my results barely improved. They just don't have the right combination of materials and fabrication tolerances.)

If you have to frequently make not-so-precise cuts on lots of sheets of paper, you might find this a big time-saver. However, if you need to make deliverables for commercial clients, and/or you want your finished work to be "just right," you'll probably be frustrated whenever you use this.

Can't say more than simply the machine does what they said it would do. The paper stop seemed to be a bit too simple and I thought it would be a flaw. But I am surprised how accurately and easily it aligns a stack of papers. Believe them when they say the blade is sharp. Just looking at it can make your finger bleed. (That's my story and I am sticking to it.) Wish it had more of a platform on the "remnant" side of the blade, but I have created a platform to compensate. A great economical product with professional results for a desktop publisher. Have been using mine for a year now.

This product works great. Cut many sheets with a perfect cut. So much better for larger projects over the typical chop cutting boards.

You want to clamp down hard with this, so use some card stock to protect your work, otherwise it will leave an indentation.

We use it to make our own business cards, greeting cards, handouts, and more.

Professional results for your home or office.

It's a heavy unit, so make sure it's placed on a secure table or counter. And keep kids away from the very sharp blade!

It does the job, but you will have to do a great deal of the work yourself. Don't count on the measurements being correct. Don't count on the backstop being easily adjusted. Don't count on the first sheet being where you would expect it to be or the top sheet not to be marred by the vise. But once you have your paper aligned and in place, this will clamp it down and give you a clean cut through large stacks of paper. So it is worth getting just for that.
