“A revisionist view of the Revolution’s most crucial year… it explodes many of the myths surrounding Burgoyne’s Canadian expedition and Howe’s Pennsylvania campaign. There is a wealth of fascinating detail in this book, including information on arms and supplies, rations for women camp followers, and even the numbers of carts (30-odd) carrying Burgoyne’s luggage.”

5.0 out of 5 stars About 1777, The Year of the Hangman, January 7, 2012
From The Antiquarian Resource

Written by John S. Pancake, this book was published the bicentennial year of 1977, by University of Alabama Press. It is indexed with extensive chapter notes plus "Bibliographic Essay, 268 pages, six-by-nine inch format, it has several maps and about 25 or more illustrations.

From the Dust Jacket it reads:

"Many of the myths that have clouded contemporary views of the American Revolution are exploded in this panoramic view of the war's most crucial year.

Here are words about the book from R. Don Higginbotham, Professor of Military History, United States Military Academy:

"Very well written. He has a keen eye for the apt illustration and the clever phrase ... He puts the story of 1777 together in a very admirable fashion.. such a book should ahve a wide interest."

Very active style of writing that is easy to follow, nicely. I appreciate a book source like this that is well referenced and indexed. It's good contribution for my reference library.
