When I got the product, I did a gentle wash/scrub on it. I noticed after leaving a glass on it to dry for a few hours, the glass had adopted a very strong rubber smell which was easily detectable when drinking from it. Having used silicon ice cube trays before, I knew that soaking in a vinegar/water solution does an excellent job of removing smells off of products. It worked perfectly, and I now love the product!

I bought this to place next to my dish rack to place the hand washed dishware - i.e. stemware on to keep them out of harms way while they dried.

I also have one - a smaller one under my cats water dish to keep the dish from becoming slimy on the underside, as well as make it slightly easier to pick up when I washed it out and replaced the water.

To be honest I can think of at least a couple of other uses for these mats if they were sold in a larger variety of sizes.

I use this bar mat to protect the surface of my home bar. It catches all sorts of drips and spills and is a cinch to clean up (just rinse it out... or, if its really gross, put it in the dishwasher). Additionally, this mat is so useful that I've found all sorts of other uses for it. Fill your salt shakers up over the mat to avoid spilling salt everywhere in your kitchen, decant your wine over the mat to catch the drips, etc.

The Winco version is made of better rubber than some of the other cheaper mats that I have tried. It is well worth the (small amount of) extra money.

Every kitchen counter should have one of these. I spent some time as a bartender, and was familiar with the "long thin strip" version of these. I was elated when I found this more useful shaped mat here on Amazon. It is the perfect size, and if you entertain in any capacity (i.e. serve mixed beverages) you will really enjoy this item. It it easy to rinse clean (we also toss it into the dishwasher every once in a while) and best of all captures all of that wonderful sticky "run off" from drippy bottles, especially if you keep any of your liquor or glassware in the freezer.

When we have guests over they know without a doubt, where they should place their glass when pouring anything, even when putting creamer in the coffee. It really designates an area to "go ahead and spill a little" without any guilt or the need to clean it up immediately.

This item will be an integral part of our counter area for years to come.

Nice sized heavyweight mat, will eventually serve (no pun intended) its purpose, but the rubber smell is overwhelming. I've had 3 sessions of soaking in vinegar and UV sunlight, and it's barely put a dent in the smell. As soon as the smell dissipates, I'll start using the product.

This works great on the counter as the neurocenter for cocktail creation.

Yes it smells like rubber upon arrival, as anything of this nature would ... wash in soap and water, no big deal.

Very happy with this purchase, it works great to keep the area dry and glassware in place.

I purchased this for my home bar to protect the top when making drinks and am very pleased. Not a cheap product think and durable rubber matt.

Tried vinegar(lots of), baking soda and dish soap. Still smells quite a bit after a few weeks. Other than that, it does what a bar mat is supposed to do.

I bought this black rubber mat to protect my beautiful wood flooring in the kitchen from my cat's water dish! First of all the mat does not have any odor as stated by other reviewers. My cat has no problem with it. I place his food dish and water dish upon the mat and it works really well protecting my floor. It is just the perfect thickness and size. And it looks much neater serving as a base for his food area!!!! I do not hesitate to recommend it for any purpose you could think of!
