Play the B-Sides,

This review is from: 18 B Sides (w/ Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
As with Play, V2 Records has put out the B-Sides to 18. While the Play B-Sides generally displayed a vastly different collection of songs than those on Play the album, the 18 B-sides closely resembles their cousins on the main album. Some, I would say are simply outtakes or demos or what you eventually hear on 18. Not that it's bad, it often offers a glimpse as to how some of the songs evolve further into more structured and produced tunes on 18. They are really all for fans. What's really worthwhile here is the companion DVD set consisting of everything from music videos, video footage, a live tour, galleries, a megamix and so much more akin to the last video collection: Play The DVD. The difference is the price. This is only $13.99 and goes a lot to show that record companies can offer great stuff to consumers at a fraction of what they have been charging. Nontheless, this is nice. The DVD is really necessary for any Moby completist. The picture and audio quality are excellent. You'll get all the funky videos from 18 plus a full live tour shot earlier this year! When you see any of these, one makes you wonder if Enemiem has even enough talent to slag Moby off.

Moby loves his fans,

I had the hardest time getting this album. I was told it was released the 17th, and so I drove thirty minutes away to go get it that night. I found out it was the next night, and so I drove to three different stores, all of which didn't have it for some reason. After two and a half hours of driving and searching, I finally got it at the Virgin Megastore. AND OH, IS IT WORTH IT. The price was insane! Most CDs aren't that cheap, and this had a B-Sides CD (which was awesome, good enough to sell as an album unto itself!), and a DVD, which had SIX HOURS of material on it! Unreleased, unfinished songs, different versions of old favorites, it was incredible! It also had a concert he did, shown in it's entirety. I felt like I was there! The comedy sketches he does are hysterical, especially the cheesy student film on capitalism. Moby could easily ditch music and make it as a comedian, with all the funny voices he does and the sense of humor he has. The music videos were great, too. He also shares with us a photo gallery of every picture he's taken with his digital camera in the past year or so, which I thought was very cool. Perhaps best, though, is a video in which he goes through the creation of a song, talking to the viewer about it as if he or she was there with Moby. He experiments and changes parts he doesn't like while talking to the camera, and elsewhere in the DVD is a song entitled, "The song we made together in 30 minutes." This is definately Moby's greatest release ever! I strongly recommend it to all Moby's fans, and especially to people who aren't so fond of Moby, as this will definately win them over.

I paid all of $11.01 for this CD+DVD and had it been $11.01 for either the CD or the DVD it would've been worth it, but to get both for that price, incredible! Where to begin, the tunes on the CD are great as usual, the DVD is packed full of extras: 21 b-sides and outtakes, 12 track megamix featuring some of the best remixes from 18, videos, over 200 photos from moby's photo collection, sketches & skits galore, Moby at Work: watch as moby creates a new track in under 30 minutes (the full track is part of the b-sides/outtakes on the DVD and is a nice little piece of music on its own) and to top it off "Live from Glastonbury 2003": an hour and 14+ minutes of great concert video ending with Moby covering Radiohead's "Creep". This one is a definite must have for any Moby fan.
