4.0 out of 5 stars Play the B-Sides
As with Play, V2 Records has put out the B-Sides to 18. While the Play B-Sides generally displayed a vastly different collection of songs than those on Play the album, the 18 B-sides closely resembles their cousins on the main album. Some, I would say are simply outtakes or demos or what you eventually hear on 18. Not that it's bad, it often offers a glimpse as to how...

3.0 out of 5 stars Moby does it again
If you are like me, when you buy a new CD you are never sure whether it will become a treasured find or your latest coffee place mat. Unfortunately in my case I have many places to put a cup of the hot stuff. In this review I am going to list my treasured CD collection, so that the reader will get an idea of what kind of music I like, and judge better whether they want to...

Not that it's bad, it often offers a glimpse as to how some of the songs evolve further into more structured and produced tunes on 18. They are really all for fans.

What's really worthwhile here is the companion DVD set consisting of everything from music videos, video footage, a live tour, galleries, a megamix and so much more akin to the last video collection: Play The DVD. The difference is the price. This is only $13.99 and goes a lot to show that record companies can offer great stuff to consumers at a fraction of what they have been charging. Nontheless, this is nice. The DVD is really necessary for any Moby completist. The picture and audio quality are excellent. You'll get all the funky videos from 18 plus a full live tour shot earlier this year! When you see any of these, one makes you wonder if Enemiem has even enough talent to slag Moby off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Moby loves his fans, November 20, 2003

I had the hardest time getting this album. I was told it was released the 17th, and so I drove thirty minutes away to go get it that night. I found out it was the next night, and so I drove to three different stores, all of which didn't have it for some reason. After two and a half hours of driving and searching, I finally got it at the Virgin Megastore. AND OH, IS IT WORTH IT. The price was insane! Most CDs aren't that cheap, and this had a B-Sides CD (which was awesome, good enough to sell as an album unto itself!), and a DVD, which had SIX HOURS of material on it! Unreleased, unfinished songs, different versions of old favorites, it was incredible! It also had a concert he did, shown in it's entirety. I felt like I was there! The comedy sketches he does are hysterical, especially the cheesy student film on capitalism. Moby could easily ditch music and make it as a comedian, with all the funny voices he does and the sense of humor he has. The music videos were great, too. He also shares with us a photo gallery of every picture he's taken with his digital camera in the past year or so, which I thought was very cool. Perhaps best, though, is a video in which he goes through the creation of a song, talking to the viewer about it as if he or she was there with Moby. He experiments and changes parts he doesn't like while talking to the camera, and elsewhere in the DVD is a song entitled, "The song we made together in 30 minutes." This is definately Moby's greatest release ever! I strongly recommend it to all Moby's fans, and especially to people who aren't so fond of Moby, as this will definately win them over.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply incredible and incredibly cheap, November 24, 2003

I paid all of $11.01 for this CD+DVD and had it been $11.01 for either the CD or the DVD it would've been worth it, but to get both for that price, incredible! Where to begin, the tunes on the CD are great as usual, the DVD is packed full of extras: 21 b-sides and outtakes, 12 track megamix featuring some of the best remixes from 18, videos, over 200 photos from moby's photo collection, sketches & skits galore, Moby at Work: watch as moby creates a new track in under 30 minutes (the full track is part of the b-sides/outtakes on the DVD and is a nice little piece of music on its own) and to top it off "Live from Glastonbury 2003": an hour and 14+ minutes of great concert video ending with Moby covering Radiohead's "Creep". This one is a definite must have for any Moby fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Art for arts sake!, November 22, 2003

I usually do not take the time to write reviews, but this Moby release is an absolute trend setter for the music industry!

A CD at a reasonable price - I paid CAN$ 14.99 or US$11.00 - and it contains a mountain of extras that most other artists releases as supplements and ask their fans to spend even more money on.

The quality of both the CD and the Bonus material is first rate and shows that Moby is a true artist in various art forms.

I only hope that some music industry execs read this, because in my humble opinion this is the answer to their woes; not law suits! Build it and they will come!

Thomas

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this for the DVD, December 4, 2003
This review is from: 18 B Sides (w/ Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
The DVD included in this release is incredible. It's worth $25 alone. It is first rate all around: from the menus, the live concert, videos, to the audio only remixes, all in 5.1 DD. 6 hours of great content in all.
Thanks Moby!
Get it ASAP!

4.0 out of 5 stars Moby is the best!!!!, November 19, 2003
This review is from: 18 B Sides (w/ Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
I have been waiting for this for months since I first heard Moby say something about it on his web site. I gave it 4 stars but I wanted to give it 4 1/2 (can't put half stars). The only complaint I have is that this time around the mega mix is only audio, no visuals. If you've seen the PlayDVD you know how amazing that can be. Anyway the concert in Glastonbury is awesome and everything else about this release is pure genius as usual. This is an unreal deal that Moby has put together for us, the fans. He could have easily sold this DVD for 15 bucks. Go Moby!

5.0 out of 5 stars Give me those Moby live cuts!, December 30, 2003
This review is from: 18 B Sides (w/ Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
How bizarre that the DVD comes as a bonus to the CD, rather than the other way round, but who cares, because this package is great. The B-sides vary from new cuts to demos to rejects. A number of these tracks lack the kick and edge of the grade A tracks on the bonafide albums. Having said that, it's great that Moby and crew are happy to share all this extra stuff with us, because there are some real gems here. Even more stuff described as "outtakes and bonus songs" reside on the DVD, and that's also where the real action is, hours and hours of stuff.

It's the live cuts on the DVD that I think makes this set so irresistible. These Moby cuts carry the magic and fire that often shines through live sets recorded at the famous Glastonbury festival in England. Here the band stretches out and storms through sixteen songs that mostly cover the "play" and "18" material but also includes the classic oldies GO and FEELING SO REAL.

Also to be enjoyed are the "18" videos, complete with friendly and miniature alien life forms. As a carry on from the Play DVD, you'll find some more bizarre home videos that feature the talking fish as well as Moby acting out yet more strange and eccentric characters (or perhaps they're alter egos). The megamixes are worth checking out as well. What a Moby feast.

I love to listen to Moby. And this cd certainly ranks up there with anything else that Moby has produced.

The music cd is interestingly enjoyable to listen to, especially after viewing the bonus DVD.

The bonus dvd is what I like to think of as a gift from Moby. It contains some pretty cool rave concert footage from Glastonbury that is some of the best Moby live footage that I have ever seen. It is well worth the cost of the package alone, then coupled with the music cd, you can not go wrong. Also included are some music video's (check out the extreme ways video from the movie The Bouren Identity).

This truely is a must have for any Moby fan!

This album is very special to me. I saw Moby perform live in 2002 on his 18 Tour, and I will never forget it.
The songs on this album are simply wonderful. I could listen to them every single day without getting tired of them. Moby's music has that effect to me, what can I say.
The DVD is priceless.
I do recommend this album, highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars FABULOUS, June 22, 2007

The dvd is excellent, the live concert is one of the best concert available on dvd,and I have seen hundreds of them,Sort of a combination of Pink Floyd (Pulse the laser show) and Pet Shop Boys in concert. There are also videos and some other sort of strange things on this dvd,but the concert is what I wanted. I must mention also at first I played the "Song" list, which is just songs, not video and I thought I had gotter a music dvd but its a great concert.

What blows me away is Amazon doesn't even list it as a video and indeed it is put out as a cd with a bonus dvd but who has Amazon hired to do research into links and "items like'. This is a top find and someone should be promoting this, this is in the top 5 concerts ever! Come on Amazon get with it . I have not even listened to the cd (I watch concert on exercise bike) so I have no idea about that but it doesn't matter
