5.0 out of 5 stars Great Trucking Game!, January 15, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: 18 Wheels of Steel: Across America (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
This game is really a fun game to play. It was easy to drive the truck just using my keyboard. The graphics are pretty good and there are some neat extras that I like, like the cars and trucks on the roads are varied. I have seen motorcycles, classic and old cars as well as new ones on the roads. You can talk to other truckers but it seemed somewhat redundant. It has a cool jukebox; you can have music or not at all which is nice since sometimes I like to hear the music and other times I don't. You can pick songs you want to hear too.

There is enough diversity in the game to keep it fun like changing weather, accidents on the road that you have nothing to do with, road hazards and the like. The different companies you can choose to haul for is another great feature. The different video angles were awesome. The cons were that the police were a little too anxious to give you tickets even when they weren't around including accidently straying over the line and I wish they included more gas (diesel) stations along the highways because you aren't able to go on some highways due to not having a station on it. The other con was my truck never would go fast but either stayed close to the speed limit or below the limit even on straight ways which may be due to a slower computer, I have an Athlon 2400 and is a year old but I have a basic video card so maybe a better card should be used, other than that, it plays perfectly. It would be nice to be able to put it too the metal if I wanted, so maybe they could add that to a future version?

If you do well, you can keep updating your truck with cool features, better engines, and so on. The diversity of the cities were enough to realize you were in a different city each time. The scenery was a plus. Attention to road signs and traffic lights were about as real as one could hope for but a little too real because you will sit at a red light about as long as a real one. To me though, it just adds to the real dynamics of this game. Overall a real fun game for truckers and truck fans alike. If you are a truck lover, get this game!

It is real fun to drive coast to coast picking up trailers and smashing past traffic. The graphics are great and love the different engine and horn sounds. CB is nice touch. Less one star here for haveing weigh stations that are bugged. You can stop on the scale and then go when its ok but then a cop will catch you and fine you for not stopping when you really did. Also you can never run from the weigh station cops. They can go for miles and miles and even in on coming traffic and suddenly pull you over. Running my truck company with employees is really fun. I wish that I was able to switch trucks with some of my drivers since I bought all the trucks. It is an excellent game regardless. Have fun.

This game is alot of fun.I find myself playing this game a couple of hours at a time. It's a simple game to play.I was able to play it with my keyboard, but it's much easier and fun to play with the steering wheel and foot pedals I bought. Also there isn't that much traffic. Two things that I don't like are that the traffic lights are long and sometimes when I stop at the weight station and leave the police still come after me and give me a ticket for not stopping at the weight station.Even with these two minor issues this game is still alot of fun.
