Absolutely works, but ventilation is essential,

Short review: Buy this, you won't regret it.
Long version: My drafty old double-hung windows were so bad that we could rarely eat at our kitchen table because of the cold. Besides the draft along all sides, the top half of several windows would drop down about 1/4". That's a big space for heat to escape through when it's below freezing outside. After doing much research, I thought this product seemed like the easiest and least expensive choice for my first attempt at saving some heating cost, and increasing our comfort level for the winter. After a season with it in place, I still believe this is true. I installed the Seal N Peel in the beginning of October, and now it's March, so I've had plenty of time to evaluate its effectiveness. It has completely eliminated any draft whatsoever, and I will definitely be using it again next winter. Our oil consumption has decreased by somewhere between 5-11% compared to last year. Of course that number doesn't mean much since the temperatures vary from season to season, but I am no less happy with the savings I've realized. The fumes. There are reviews all over the web about the strength of the fumes, and they really are powerful. Ventilation will be necessary if you choose this product. Again, ventilation will absolutely be necessary if you choose this product. After a few seasons of nightmarish winters, I started looking into this early on in the season, and was able to get away with leaving all my doors open. I also have a few windows that crank closed, and decided that these didn't need sealing, so I was able to get some ventilation by having doors and windows open and pointing fans out these. Even so, I estimate the fumes to be about equivalent to those of a full days worth of interior latex paint usage. You don't want to hang around and breathe the stuff. It took a good 8 hours to clear most of the smell, even with doors and windows open and using fans. There was still a fainter, noticeable smell lasting well into the day after I applied the product. I hate to say it, but if you're reading this review and its already getting very cold, this probably isn't going to be a good solution for you this season. I still recommend grabbing some for next year and applying early. I have what I believe are fairly large windows, 48x48 and 43x49, and each tube got me through a little more than one and a half windows. I laid it on pretty thick in order to try and keep that top half of the windows up. This was effective, but if you don't have such visibly large gaps to fill, or have smaller windows, you could easily get at least two windows done per tube. My summary is that this is a definite buy, if and only if you are able to apply early enough to make arrangements for heavy ventilation.

I used this temporary caulk on my drafty aluminum windows. It goes on smoothly, and any that you get on your hands is easily washed off. It seems to do a pretty good job keeping out the bulk of the drafts. It doesn't smell bad when you are applying it, however, the next 48 hours are terrible. The fumes are overpowering and obnoxious. Initially it stuck well to the aluminum window frames, however, as time passed it seemed to be coming off the windows. None of it has fallen off, but it seems to have come up in some places. I have not removed it yet so I cannot comment on removal yet.
04/01/09 Update: I just started removing the caulking from the window and it comes up easily and leaves no residue. All in all... Apply it in sessions over a few weeks and make sure there is plenty of ventilation.

Super removable weatherstrip,
This review is from: Dap 18324 Seal 'N Peel Removable Caulk, 10.1-Ounce (Tools & Home Improvement)
Here is a great product.. Don't waste time with the rope type which falls off in a month or so.. this seals completely and is super easy to remove..
It doesn't damage woodwork or the frame. i'm getting ready to do it now just before the first freeze in Wisconsin.. No more drafts around doors or windows!! no other product is as good. However get your weatherstip in shape also. Thanks Amazon for the opportunity to rate these. Hope this helps someone. Fumes were not bad at all IMHO!! I recommend a power caulk gun to put this in place. My hand got real tired putting this on the windows. I got a pneumatic caulk gun, but they make electric, battery etc. http://www.amazon.com/Wagner-Products-0287040-PowerCaulk-Rechargeable/dp/B0000224TR It really made install easy! the hand method works but you will have a sore hand at the end of the day.

This product is designed to temporarily close leaks. When applied there is a very strong smell, like model glue. It would be good to apply this when there is plenty of ventilation. In order for the material to be easy to remove later it is necessary to apply a generous amount as the removal depends upon the material being able to pull itself.

I use this product every year in my classroom. My laminated posters stay up all school year. (In a room with painted cinder block walls and a wide range of temperatures.) Then I can easily remove the posters and store them over the summer, no sticky stuff left on the back.
It does smell some while putting them up, but opening the door and a window helps. By the next day the smell is gone.

Great Seasonal Fix For Drafts,

This is a great product to stop drafts yet it still lets you open your windows when warm weather returns.
My condo faces a lakeshore and whenever the wind would get up over 20 mph, the windows would howl like something from an old horror movie. Our condo complex will be replacing these windows in the next year or two so, until then, this has proven a great way to stop the drafts and noise while still allowing me to easily remove the product in the summer so I can open the windows. The only downside to Seal 'n Peel is the odor when you first apply it. It's much like airplane glue. Apply the product on the outside if you can. If not, do it on a day when you can leave a couple of doors open for most of the day. Shipping from BIC was fast. My order arrived in three days.

Great temporary seal,

This is a great product to seal off spaces around windows and doors, especially if you may need to remove it at some point. I used it around a window air conditioner which I remove during the winter months. Have a fan ready to help dissipate the fumes while drying.

I live in Buffalo and own an uninsulated big house built in the 1880's with 87 inch tall drafty wood windows. The plastic sheet kits don't fit and I need a product that can seal the windows quickly for the winter. Last year the big box stores stopped carrying this brand and I tried another. It was like I hot-glued my windows shut! I had to pry it off with sharp tools. The Dap brand pulls right off easily. It dries to a consistancy like the glue dots that seal up envelopes. Like everyone says, it has a strong odor for about 24 hours (smells like plastic model cement). Use it on a warm autumn day so you can leave a door open while it dries.
