Great soundtrack; best use of trip-hop in a film.,

This review is from: 187: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is really one that can only be appreciated by die hard trip-hoppers. That said, those unfamiliar with the genre will surely enjoy it just as well. The album follows the chronology of the film, beginning with Galliano's excellent "Slack Hands". The gospel-style chorus, acoustic guitar, and hip-hop drums open the album nicely. The soundtrack also features Massive Attack's "Spying Glass" and "Karmacoma", from their "Protection" album; Prodigy's frenetic remix of Method Man's "Release Yo' Delf"; DJ Shadow's tragic suite "Stem"; classical composer David Darling's "In November", a tension-filled symphony that was also used to similar effect in the movie "Heat"; and, my favorite track, "The Wilderness" by V-Love. It appeared in the movie at the commencement ceremony at film's end, and it fit that scene perfectly. All in all, a very good compilation, definitely not like typical soundtracks for this type of movie. Highly recommended.

This is probably one of thebest films made, its portrail of suburban life in LA is excellent. Although the power of the film is in the writing the music takes you on a journey that is both emotive and compelling. The best way to listen to this soundtrack is to sit back, close your eyes and listen.

What Do You Call Real Music?,

I have heard the CD and I think the Artists who wrote the songs are very talented. Most of them are unknown but the movie itself was excellent, so the music to express the mood in the movie had to be breath taking as well.

As all you know, a soundtrack can make the move, I mean come on, look at "Star Wars", which I do love also. Capturing the mood of the movie is important in 187 and the selection of techno/hip-hop tracks were perfect. Take a look at "Risky Business" for example, it has a similar captivating soundtrack from the artist "Tangerine Dream". The same goes for "Shawshank Redemption", not a big production soundtrack, but very well done to soak you into the storyline. This CD is good road music and is different from the day to day corporate selected list of 20 songs on your favorite station.

I already own the other songs from other albums that I bought. I just want Slack Hands by Galliano. Shame I can't buy it without spending $10 bucks. Oh wells, guess I'll just have to miss out. Bunch of *&^*ing BS!

This review is from: 187: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Probably one of the best soundtracks ever made, period, when it comes to a genius masterpiece of music combined with the scenery of the movie. I reccommend getting the movie and the soundtrack cuz the movie really is a have to see film and after you see the movie you really understand the music and how good it goes together.
