5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Plush Towels!
These towels are wonderful! I purchased the bath towels and hand towels last month and, after non-stop use, highly recommend them. I received my order quickly and it was nicely packaged. They are neatly and evenly stitched and the pile is thick, super soft and luxurious. They've been washed and dried four times now and get better each time - they shed a little at first...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed review - I love these towels, but....
I, too, liked the idea of supporting this project in Africa. I bought and started using 2 sets of these towels in April 2011. Absolutely love the bath and hand towels as they continue to look brand new. (The towel sets are washed 2x week.) They continue to be soft and very absorbent. They also dry pretty quickly. So far, they are indeed the best towels I've ever had and...

These towels are wonderful! I purchased the bath towels and hand towels last month and, after non-stop use, highly recommend them. I received my order quickly and it was nicely packaged. They are neatly and evenly stitched and the pile is thick, super soft and luxurious. They've been washed and dried four times now and get better each time - they shed a little at first but not as much as other towels I've had. I would equate them to the best Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware towels which I also own but at a fraction of the price. You won't be disappointed in these!

**UPDATE** It's now January 2012 and these towels are STILL da bomb!

4.0 out of 5 stars Luxurious, but I recommend the white towel, October 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These are beautiful, soft, fancy-feeling and fancy-looking towels. I got the towel in the white and moss colors. I highly recommend the white towel if you use any kind of facial products containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. The faintest exposure of the colored towels to any of these products (even in the wash) will turn patches of your beautiful towel into orange. Just my two cents.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed review - I love these towels, but...., August 1, 2011

I, too, liked the idea of supporting this project in Africa. I bought and started using 2 sets of these towels in April 2011. Absolutely love the bath and hand towels as they continue to look brand new. (The towel sets are washed 2x week.) They continue to be soft and very absorbent. They also dry pretty quickly. So far, they are indeed the best towels I've ever had and I've tried very expensive towels sets. I also like the style. I consider them very spa-like.

Now for the downside...
The washcloths are not holding up. The edges are turning pink/orange. The rest of the cloth is going gray. (My husband and I do not use any products that might cause discoloration.) I have not tried bleaching the washcloths yet, so don't know if that will bring them back to white.

But, I love the bath and hand towels so much, that I figure I will just keep buying replacement washcloths. Happily, they come in packages of four.

If anyone is questioning whether to try these towels or not, I would definitely recommend getting them. Just be aware that the washcloths may not hold up.

So...
3 stars for the washcloths only
5 stars for the bath and hand towels

After a few weeks usage and a few washings, this towel is a soft as the day I received it. Plus it is a good size. Good stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, October 4, 2009

That is what I think when I first opened the package. Having owned lot of towels over the years, I decided to retired some of them this year due to the usage. I usually shop at Dept. like Macy's or bath products stores. It could cost you a lot, and sometimes it looks good but it does not absorb water well or just useless. This towel is thick, heavy.(not the weight) Feels great when you touch it. I will be getting more of 1888 Mills towels in the future, since I am also happy with their organic towels.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful towel, but for one small problem, August 31, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought one of these towels and it is in fact a great towel - large, soft, absorbent. However, the loop weave of the towel caught on a tiny splinter on my towel shelf, and pulled about 10" of thread in a long run out of the towel, right in the middle, with very little effort. So be aware of this.

Indeed very soft and well-made towels. Bigger size than other hand towels and very well-made with no losing threads even after several washes.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money., August 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Bought the 1888 Mills Luxury Cotton Made in Africa Bath Towel with the expectation that is was going to be a quality towel. Not the case. When it arrived, I washed it as recommended on the label with other towels. The washer does not have an agitator to clean with so it is gentle on all things you place in it for washing. The new towel came out of the wash looking like the the old towel it was going to replace. Strings were hanging off this towel everywhere as if a cat decided to use it as its scratching post.

Save your money on this one! This towel should only be sold in dollar stores. It is not worth much more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Plush and super absorbent, March 19, 2011
By

These are very plush and super absorbent. I did not notice any extra lint in my dryer, even when washing them for the first time. Some people suggested that using a softener may make these less absorbent, I don't think it's the case with a liquid softener - they come out super soft, fluffy and are still very absorbent. A HUGE upgrade from the Wamsutta towels we used to use. Those are like sandpaper compared to these.

I ordered them in white and it's a beautiful bright white. The only slightly negative thing about the towels themselves- the white towels had a huge red tag sewn into them (the tag which shows fabric composition and country of origin). It took me almost an hour to carefully remove this tag from the 6 towels I purchased. If the tag had been white, I wouldn't bother to remove it, but I wasn't sure how red would do in the laundry (I was worried that it may bleed into the white).

A separate note on packaging - Amazon, out of many many items that I have purchased from you over the years, this had to have been the worse-packed one! Individual towels themselves were fine - they were wrapped in plastic, but all 6 of them were thrown into a huge cardboard box which literally fell apart after I picked it up from the front porch. The tape that's supposed to hold the bottom of the box together wasn't holding anything. It's amazing the box made it in one piece to my house...
