My first pocket knife was an Old Timer presented to me by my Grandfather. I bought this for my son on his 10th birthday to be his first pocket knife. The first one was broken (the handle was cracked) and had to be returned. They are very stiff and require an unusual amount of strength to open. If you don't get it open past a 90 degree angle, it is going to snap closed (possibly on a finger). I ended up telling him to put it away and keep it for sentimental value and bought him a Classic Swiss Army Knife that he can actually use.

This is a reasonably well made single blade liner-lock variation of the classic small penknife design. It's main selling points are the locking feature and the price.

The Schrade 180T Mighty Mite is a 2 3/4" closed, single lock-blade version of a classic small penknife design that usually incorporates 2 slip-joint (non-lockblade) blades. (The Schrade 104OT Minuteman appears to be that 2-blade slip-joint sister knife. The 120T Pal appears to be a single-blade slip-joint equivalent.) The liner-lock locking mechanism takes up the space that would have been allocated to the smaller pen blade. That lockblade feature makes this knife unique. I haven't seen any other brand marketing a thin penknife lockblade of this design / style (though other small lockblades are certainly available).

Schrade Old Timer is a line of inexpensive classic design pocket knives of middle (decent enough) quality. I paid $10.29 for this one including prime shipping. So, I'm not going to complain that it's not machined as finely as a $30 - $60 knife or that it's made in China. If you pay three times this price, you will get a nicer knife. However, for the price it's quite good. It's solid and reasonably well machined using decent enough materials. The "Delrin" handle is a durable plastic similar to the type cutting boards are made of, colored brown / tan with an etched surface. The center rivet is not ground flush with the handle (on purpose and not uncommon), which I find mildly annoying. Over time the "nickle" bolsters have tarnished very badly indicating that they are a cheap alloy. This is my main beef since it uglies the knife. However, everything lines up as it's supposed to. The blade opens, closes, and locks properly.

I've owned a few pocket knives over the years, but never have I seen one this size with a lock! I love it! Anyone who has owned or used a pocket knife (sometimes not in their intended fashion) has had a regular pocket knife close up while in use. No more! The lock blade turns this little pocket knife into a tool!

Nice and small. Don't even know it's in your pocket. Super sharp right out of the box. Going to get two more for our boys.

Update..... I have been carrying this knife in my pocket for a few months now. Really happy with it. It has came in handy several times and made it through the washing machine. I put a drop of Tri-Flow oil on the pivot point where the blade mounts and it works smooth as can be.

I have owned 3 of these Mighty Mites and I have never worn one out, I lose the darn things. They do need to be sharpened to be useful. Handy size but hard to keep (operator error).

Small, sharp, handy, well made, easily fits in pocket, and the blade locks in place. What else does one need.

It is a little smaller than I thought it would be but the craftsmen ship is as expected. It is very sharp and is easy to carry in my pocket. It came as the shipper said it would on time

This is just what it's called the mighty mite, I've owned a 1/2 dozen and people keep begging them from me when they see how neat this little whittler is.
